The contract to construct the Eiffel Tower was signed on 8 January 1887. Construction of the project was completed on 31 March 1889.

Today is day 1005 since Reneau made his "historic announcement".
Cowboys Stadium was built in about 1,100 days.
Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel in just over 4 years. And he was a sculptor. We are approaching "wonder of the world" territory in time elapsed.
It only took 3 years to build the Titantic. :D

It only took 3 yrs and 11 months to build the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in NYC.
Quote:
Total Time was 3 years and 11 months - As Louie mentioned - Groundbreaking for the World Trade Center took place on August 5, 1966. The North Tower (1) was completed in December 1970 and the South Tower (2) was finished in July 1971.

Y'all are talking about the building process...that's irrelevant. Find me some historical numbers of time elapsed between announcement and groundbreaking.

Day 1006
Awaiting groundbreaking.
I was speaking with some of the engineering administration about a week ago about all this. He brought up the fact that the new engineering building was announced about the same time, it was just lower profile since funding was separate and it affected a different group of people. Almost half the funds have been raised on that project (it was slightly cheaper than Q4E) and we're about to be able to go to the state and ask them to cover the rest.
The Q4E differs in that fund-raising should be easier (as opposed to just those invested in engineering) and it is higher profile (athletics). I personally know of several faculty who are on the warpath daily to raise funds for this thing. So I know progress is being made on that.
Point being, I understand fund-raising in La. can be tough. But is BVDV hitting the trails? And if so, let's hear a report. There's been not so much as a peep from him concerning the status of the project...it's like he forgot about it.
Fine. If you're one of those geeks who's into engineering longivity and can't comprehend how hitting an iceberg can make for a bad day.....it only took an estimated 30 years to build the frickin Pyramids!!!! And they are still around after 5,000 years . :icon_wink:

Of course, if LOUISIANA TECH was in charge of building the Pyramids, they'd still be in the "talking about it" stage.
