Somehow, Bradshaw makes the TD throw to Tech receiver Larry Brewer despite having 4 or 5 Akron Zips ALL OVER HIM. In fact, in today's game, I believe that play would have whistled dead before he made that throw.
Other observations in these videos:
- The punting was bad, particularly in the 1st half. Real bad. By both teams. I'm talking Junior High school bad.
- Terry Bradshaw was not perfect. He made several really bad throws in this game.
- Lots of dropped passes, especially a lot of dropped potential INT's by both teams.
- Bradshaw was not afraid to run, and he did so quite often. I never saw a slide.
- Bradshaw made an outstanding run for Tech's 5th TD (9:26 of the part 3 video).
- With Tech holding a 33-13 lead late in the 4th Qtr, Bradshaw is eventually replaced by a QB wearing #27. Does anyone know who this is?
- For some reason (#27 may have been hurt), Bradshaw comes back into the game (at 3:28 of the 4th video) and promptly throws an INT.
- #27 comes back into the game at QB on the very next series, the last of the game.
- The Band of Pride went out onto the field and celebrated with the players after the final whistle.
Keep in mind it was 12 degrees below freezing at kickoff. Boxscore lists weather as "20 degrees, cold, snowy, windy."
#27 was Ronnie Wiggins from West Monroe. He's listed as a DB-QB on the roster.

since65 here ( 52 years) and I could care less-- I'm much more frustrated with being totally ignore-- my last name is pronounced differently all the time ( French Canadian) an I don't wast time correct folks--go with flow

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
Back to the original topic, everything I've heard here in DFW so far has been "lah" Tech. I heard more than one show on more than one radio station talking about SMU hiring Dykes and him coaching against his old team and it was all "lah Tech." I don't love it, but it's something we've embraced and it's better than the title of this thread.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
We could solve the problem by simply changing our name to "Louisiana.":laugh:

my post was pathetic-- I was trying to agree with you 100% -- I understood that in 44 years you have never heard (or worried about) what folks call us-- I was adding that in 52 years I have never heard or worried what folks call us--- Again-I liked and agreed with you

"Lah Tech" is simply a part of our brand now. Embrace it as such and it'll grow on you. Be glad that people know who the heck we are.

So you are okay with our own fans calling us Ell Aye Tech? That's not even close to the brand Dooley sold us. Still, it is an easy fix, but our administration has is too busy searching for "first time ever" moments.

I'm very happy with fans calling us Ell Aye Tech ("L A" Tech). Again, Dooley doesn't own the LA Tech brand, we (the school) do. It's not like "L A" Tech is a derogatory slur. It's very respectable, and trust me when I say no one confuses us with Los Angeles. It's a cool brand, and we should adopt it. Personally, I like "L A" Tech much better than being called "Lah Tech", which is really just a weak attempt to copy the "Vah Tech" name of VA Tech.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
Our FANS are going to call us Louisiana Tech. But if they are going to come to our games and cheer four our teams the short answer is YES I AM OKAY with them calling us Lah Tech or El Aye Tech. I don't even mind Jolly Lolly Poly. My point was and is that no one is going to confuse us with Los Angeles unless they are totally ignorant, in which case we shouldn't care.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I want to know what Hester's "fake fans" use? El A Tech? Lah Tech? What....?
I don't recall ever hearing: "Tex" Tech, Vah Tech, and especially not "Gah" Tech. So, is it that much more trouble to say "Louisiana" like folks say "Texas" "Virginia" and "Georgia" ?

At least the administration is trying to build excitement and a sense the program is improving. The alternatives are:
1) Say nothing because it was done 30-40+ years ago.
2) Say "check this out, we did this 20, 30, 40+ years ago."
I love Tech. But I have to be real. Those awesome teams from late-60s through early-70s were not competing with the Alabama, Texas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, etc. powerhouses of those days. I'm certain they would have given those teams more than they wanted but a Grantland Rice Bowl is no Sugar/Rose/Orange bowl.
Christmas Day, my father-in-law and I were recounting all the great NFL players that Tech, Grambling, NSU, and NLULM produced from those years. If memory serves, each of those schools have more NFL star players than LSPoo.
During the coin toss introductions, the PA guy at the DXL bowl said "THE PONY EXPRESS!!" Sounded really lame because NOTHING about current day SMU teams is comparable to the Pony Express glory days. I don't want Tech coming off like that.

No the administration is building resumes using information that is often inaccurate. The last thing they care about is excitement from the fans.

Happened to us at the Frisco Bowl while eating at Babes. Manager comes over and asked if he could have a teaching moment for one of his waitresses who happened to be a SMU student. She just had her mind made up that LA Tech was a school from California. I tried to explain the whole LAH Tech thing to her. Manager was dying laughing as she could not process the Louisiana/LA thing. She finally just gave up and said all she cares about is SMoooo and that was that.

I showed the young lady and the manager the Block T on my shirt and the LA Tech on my jacket and stated my preference for Block T. I informed the young lady that I went to Louisiana Tech not El A Tech nor LAH Tech. She said wow I am more confused than ever and walked off shaking her head... Nobody should care whether someone calls us Lah Tech, LA Tech, or whatever; they are still referring to Louisiana Tech University. Now if you want to argue that we shouldn't create rogue logos of cartoon puppy dog heads because THAT CONFUSES FANS I would agree with you.

I was in Academy in Bossier City yesterday. They have had a better selection, including long sleeve shirts. They obviously have sold a lot of them-I tried to find one last night and the selection wasn’t much to choose from. They did pretty well this year earlier. Dicks in Shreveport had very few now as well, but had a lot earlier.

It was better for sure. We get people asking my family where we get our Tech stuff all the time. Most of it was purchased in Ruston at the Fan Stop while we were waiting for the shuttle. Ronny Walker ain't stupid.

isn't that what it says on the paper? It's a shame we have to write out "Pronounced lah tech" but we've refused to fix the problem

Yeah. I guess the PA guy didn’t read our media guide or games notes closely enough.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I would be very happy to see the logos reflect LaTech and the correct pronunciation and get a more menacing dawg logo. I'd also like to win the lottery but I will settle for two out of three wishes.

That's pronounced "Pa", like the father on Little House on the Prairie, correct?

I think you spell that "Pah".

You don't care that part of the branding attempt failed?
You don't care that is was and is an easy fix?
You don't care that we refuse to fix it?
How does it make us look like Lafayette? If anything our leadership looks silly like Lafayette.

If someone can't pick up on LAH-Tech or L.A. Tech, whichever, being Louisiana Tech during the course of a game they are just idiots.

So you are also fine with them pronouncing it EllAye Tech which was never the intent?
Again, it is an easy fix. Why would any of our fans not demand to fix it instead of just settling for 3rd rate?

Because Tech fans have been trained to settle for mediocrity if we're lucky. Or more often, failure, and 90% of our fans will say "thank you sir may I have another?"

it must be a bigger deal for people that live in LA than out of state.

It's not a big deal to those who like us being called EllAye Tech. Some of us don't like it at all.

How would you like people calling you "Way-Dee" Antley instead of pronouncing "Wade" correctly?

It's a bigger deal for those of us who care about the brand, what's been built over the past 50 years, and want it protected.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
Perhaps for me this is a bigger deal because I've seen it from an outsider's perspective. I've spent so much time traveling throughout the country for the past 25 years that I know the impact of our brand, how people view Tech, and especially how we're viewed vs. other schools outside the P5 and even within the P5 because of our brand. And for the most part we've had that brand fall into our lap.
There are individuals perhaps too close to the situation that don't see that. They don't see this in any way from an outsider's point of view and how valuable that brand has become over time.
