Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Committee chair is now limiting everyone's remarks to 5 minutes.
Dr. Rozeman on the microphone now in support of the merger.
Dr. Rozeman:
No money for the study came from any of the state's universities.
All Louisiana Tech degree programs would be available for the S/BC campus.
Rep. Schroder:
I don't believe most of our legislators know how bad the fiscal issues are in higher education.
What do you see the direction we are headed with higher ed money?
Fannin's Response:
$1.6 billion budget hole to fill last year. Mid-year estimate came in, and now we have to cut another $211 million.
New estimates are an additional $210 million cut for the rest of this year and $310 million for FY 2013.
With all the reductions stacked together. Most reductions have to be cut from higher ed, DHH, and Dept. of Education, because that is where most of the state's budget is.
This bill is one way for higher education to move up instead of remaining mediocre. If the revenue isn't there, then we need to consider bills like HB 964.

He seems to be supporting the issue more from a financial viewpoint.

Very good news for Tech. The more an unbiased reasoning can be used, the better.

He's not a Shreveport rep, so it would be out of turn for him to speak on behalf of the SBC community and what they want, so he has to go from the $$$

Some are. Some aren't. Yes, LSU's engineering is ranked higher, but it's BS. So is Tulane's engineering program, and all they have is chemical engineering and a joke of a biomedical engineering program. It's based primarily off of peer assessment scores from deans around the country who have no clue about the engineering programs in other states.

Its all in how its measured. I know research $$$ are often factored into the rankings. I would guess LSU would rank above Tech in that category. That is irrelevant to me in determining what is the better school. I still marvel that in my 5 years I only had one class taught by a GA. To me that is what sets Tech apart in that the professors actually teach undergrad classes. That is not the norm in many schools. So while they may rank higher I would put my education up against any of them because I was actually taught by the professors that garner the research dollars that drive the ranking.

Good job! I really like his speech.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Another unbiased reasoner for the merger - chalk up Rozeman.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Rep John Schroder is up questioning. Southeastern grad.

Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Sounds like Schroder supports this...
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Did I hear right that Schroder didn't like how Lombardi was fired?

Dr. Rozeman is the President of the LSUS Foundation Board of Directors, and he very strongly supports the merger.
