The basic problem with the repub platform is that tax cuts for the rich doesn't create prosperity. Until they get over their fixation on cutting taxes for the super-rich, I doubt they will take control of the government again.
The votes they'll lose dropping social issues (which I fully expect them to do) will dwarf the number they gain. Social issues had nothing to do with the defeat.

This was also huge. Romney did a very poor job of explaining the importance of tax cuts in a recession/depression. I think he assumed people knew cutting taxes would be good for the economy. But instead, people believed he was a rich guy who wanted to only help other rich guys and didn't care about the poor. Paul Ryan did try to explain that it worked under JFK and Reagan in the VP debate, but Biden cut him off. Romney NEVER explained it.Quote:

That reminds me of another Romney mistake. He never explained that raising taxes on the rich won't come close to helping our debt problem. The math doesn't add up. I think Obama wants to increase taxes by $1 Trillion over 10 years, but we run $1 Trillion deficits EVERY YEAR. There is no point in raising taxes.Quote:
