I was out there and there committee was awesome but folks living there had no idea Tech and TCU were playing. Get rid of all the "toilet " bowls and leave only the 12-14 "good bowls" and I'll probably never see another Tech bowl game in my life. Its about -Fans, money , conference tie ins-- I hate being a realist but we are a long way from the type of bowl games we want to be invited too -- no sense belittling the one we have been in the most. Just ties us to "toilet bowl". ULL has been in new orleans bowl 2 yrs in row--pay out is half of what i_bowl pays .
Apparently you have missed all of the last tie-in selection with the SEC and the fasination. The I-bowl doesn't choose to do better and that is the reason they will fold. They make themselves the loser/toilet bowl. None of the teams they want EVER want to play there! WE don't have a bowl. I would never give them 10 cents of my money and would not even pay to go if TECH played there again. You are mistaken too about the payout. If you are not part of the original tie-in, teams do not get the stated payout. You can try to convince anyone how awesome it would be, but you are just singing in the wind for me. The are a bad bowl that needs to fold- and can't be far from that after this past year.
Re: Independence Bowl sets sights on stability
I personally wish somehow they would do away with bowl tie ins especially after the BCS bowls and play oof games are filled. As long as there are 40 bowls Louisian Tech should not have a problem getting in a bowl game unless Les fails to make the right call in a few months.

you get it. The Bowl is as inanimate object-- we have only played in 2 non i-bowls since 1977 for goodness sakes. Nothing wrong with having a bowl in N La -- especially with right people running it. The bowl , when run right, has huge benefit to economy, and on rare occasions, Tech. If you have a decent car and blow out 2 tires -- you get new tires, not unload the car. There have been times in the past that the I-bowl actively supported Techs non I bowl games. Again, 6 bowl games in 35 games, 2 were not I-bowl. CUSA will lose bowl tie ins , liberty is NOT obliged to invite CUSA, counting on Liberty? How did that work out for us?? Some how getting rid of I-bowl helps Tech?? As far as payout, that's like saying alphabet starts with A -- anyone who follows bowls know that payouts are negotiated, TCU estimated a loss of 300 k for Poinsetta.

. We assume most BBB readers understand how payouts work since it has been detailed ad-infinitum . If you choose not to support Tech for any reason, that is your choice

I'd just like to chime in and agree with Dog65's last few posts. Some of you talk about Shreveport like Tech needs to completely forget about it. Regardless of our experiences with the I bowl committee, don't lump the entire town and region into the mix. We have made TONS of headway in this town and belittling it only negates the hard work we who live here have spent trying to change the perception of Tech around here. Your very "attitude" is exactly what we are trying to erase.
Please be part of the solution instead of bitching about the problem.
Incorrigible.

I like your enthusiasm/opoptimism, but to say "Tons of progress" is in my opinion way way overstating. Once we are in place and establish order on the currr LSUS campus that may happen.

You apparently didn't since you were talking about the payout in the NO bowl. I was explaining it to you.

Bumped this for you so you could see what I was explaining - your comment indicated you may not.

Thats 6 in 35 years. without I-bowl , it MIGHT have been 2 in 35 years . I have always been proud of those appearances and the tremendous support of Techs fan base--we set attendance records -- I have never considered those as "loser" or "toilet" appearances.
I have never considered them as loser or toilet bowl appearances. Unless TECH was playing in the I-Bowl, I had NO interest in the I-Bowl at all. They usually get 2 teams from Cattlegap, Egypt to play. I care about neither team, so I don't go to the game. Each team's fans have to travel a long way...so no participation from the two schools playing....but, not my problem. As for the I-Bowl being the "Toilet Bowl".....in my opinion....that is what it became last year. If anyone wants to support it...go ahead. But I WILL NOT!!

It became the "Summer's Eve" bowl in 1997 when they snubbed a 9-2 Tech team with wins over Alabama and Cal and a close loss to Ark in the worst officiated game I have ever seen. I haven't supported them since and will not, unless Tech is playing. Last year just kind of put the icing on the cake.
Re: Independence Bowl sets sights on stability
Same time I quit supporting the I Bowl except when Tech is playing! I used to buy 10 teckets every yr for over 15 years.
Justa like the Bowl people would prefer to take 8th or 9th SEC or Big XII or ACC vs 1st or 2nd Conference USA team just
does not make any business sense! They should have a tie with 1st or 2nd Conference USA team and keep the other side
open for the best team available after others select. Almost every year a team peaks at the end of the yr and gets left
out Bowls for some 6 & 6 or 6 & 7 team that does not travel any fans. Their fans are not excited about a bowl trip around
Christmas or New Years but a team that has not been to a bowl for yrs will normally travel unless it happens to be ULM

Exactly. That same 8th or 9th place SEC team would probably still be available but I guess that's not quite the same as saying we have an SEC tie-in. And you're right, makes no sense at all.
Re: Independence Bowl sets sights on stability
You guys are giving ULM too much attention. Jeez who shives a git how many people were there to watch that curb-stomping
Re: Independence Bowl sets sights on stability
Well, we saw the figures stating how much Ohio lost by playing in this years Indy Bowl. When will ULM release a financial report stating how it did financially???

Do they know how to do that?
