Re: University of Louisiana System Name Change Policies and Guidelines
I always thought if they wanted to get away with the University of Louisiana, USL should have chosen Grambling as their partner.
University of Louisiana at Grambling - they could have kept going by Grambling similar to Fresno State (California State University, Fresno)

Hey like they do it in California. FRESNO STATE is actually CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY, FRESNO.

On another thread, some UL@L troll was harping on how there is nothing preventing them using just "Louisiana." I decided to have some fun and suggested we:
* retain the State-T logo in all regards
* put Louisiana on the front and Tech on the back of football and basketball jerseys
* put Louisiana on the front and Tech on the back of the baseball and softball teams' caps.
* have "Louisiana" in one end zone and "Tech" in the other.
* start marketing "Louisiana Bulldogs" merchandise.
I rationalized that the above would resolve our "El Lay Tech," "Lah Tech" issues.
Boy, did that guy come back in a HURRY stating we have built an excellent brand it would be foolish of us to change our brand. I enjoyed the heck out of the guy having to acknowledge in writing that we have a great brand that is recognized both locally and nationally. Especially since the guy is one of those saying we are in violation of the law since we don't put @ Ruston on anything. I would have loved to have seen his reaction when he realized how easily Tech could derail UL@L's attempt to claim "Louisiana" as its name.

I'm sure it is. But, the Cajuns claim that the document they cited is later (which is true) and reflects the current official names of all the institutions in the U of L System.

Nothing in the later law dealt with name change only establishment of the UL System and included a list of schools in the system. Nothing in the statute would act as a repeal of the 1970 Act as it was not an expression of new legislative will on the subject of individual names.

Thanks for pointing that out. I've been meaning to go back and confirm what I remembered. LaLaff people inserted that list. I assume they did it as a play off the mention of a couple of schools used as examples in the real legistation.

Jail house lawyers rarely get the law right.

True. But a RS designating location can be confusing to those that wish it to be, especially considering the ULX nonsense.
Re: University of Louisiana System Name Change Policies and Guidelines
Well, after all could the University of Louisiana at Lafayette beat Louisiana Tech University at Barksdale?

Since you guys like to be so official on everything. One of these schools is the largest which make the rest their little sisters.
