Re: Op/Ed: The Independence Bowl is in trouble
Not weird at all. Sounds like a businessman who will not be bullied or belittled and deals with facts. Ms Settlers didn't deny it was said. In fact, she's very complimentary of Camping World's efforts to help. I think she sees the value CW brings to the table beyond money and would hate to see them leave. Give her credit for that.
Re: Op/Ed: The Independence Bowl is in trouble
I think she will discredit the comments after he terminates the relationship. I don't have a dog in the hunt. Looks like an exit strategy to me.

I think she sees losing her sponsor on their early out provision and will speak politically correct to prevent that from happening.

This is precisely the problem with the game. None of the other 39 bowl games operates this way. Rather than having a strong, experienced Executive Director with deep college football ties who makes decisions for the game, a large group - most of whom have their own agendas - runs the game behind the scenes. Secret votes. Backstabbing. Craziness, just craziness.
I want this game to succeed. I really do. Hell, I froze in that press box as a volunteer for many games in the 80s and 90s. But I've now been involved with three other bowl games. To see how they operate compared to the Independence Bowl would shock some of you.
Re: Op/Ed: The Independence Bowl is in trouble
To me this statement says a lot:
"Every year it's something new that you have to focus on to make the game better for people locally," said executive director Missy Setters.
If you can't fix it after one year, then you shouldn't be the executive director! She is being reactive to situations that arise after the fact instead of being proactive to situation that might occur! Not a very good trait to have as an executive director.

Somebody invite her back to BBB. It might save her job. Or don't.

Yeah....I guess that "I-Bowl member" forgot that he wasn't talking about LA Tech this time. And he tried to use the same attitude.
Camping World owner Marcus Lemonis is all about "turning around failing businesses". I'm a pretty big fan of his. But now I want to see if he's got the guts to DEMAND a leadership change at the I-bowl, or if he just folds his tent and goes home.

On his show "The Profit" he often focuses on management and will sometimes request someone step down, or higher management terminate someone. Once he got into a knock-down/drag-out argument with the majority owner of a business and said to him, no YELLED at him: you are the problem!
ML could yell that at Miss Missy Prissy too!
Re: Op/Ed: The Independence Bowl is in trouble
I happen to be in Shreveport on the day of the game this year at a couple of the casino's. There was no more people than usual in them and the workers in the casinos didn't even know the game was being played

Doesn't shock me that they would have that attitude towards us, but their title sponsor. That's crazy even for them. Their attitude towards us and the 2012 debacle didn't help them, but the problems run much deeper.
10 years ago it would have made sense to form a partnership between the I bowl and Tech. Now we have less incentive to work for the partnership. I still think it would be good to have the I-bowl in the rotation about every 4 years. I just don't know if we want to help them limp along with the current comitee.
There have been lots of good ways to improve things presented on this board. Hope they figure things out.

Who cares if they ever figure things out? Personally, I could not care less what happens to the I-Bowl. It's a crappy bowl, in a crappy stadium, in a crappy part of Shreveport, that's run by a crappy committee that suffers from delusions of grandeur. Give me the HOD, New Orleans, or Armed Forces Bowls over the I-Bowl any day.

The Independence Bowl = Sears & Roebuck
They are dead but just don't know it yet.

Excellent analogy. Nobody is shopping there anymore (either place). The pricing isn't attractive and the quality has gone downhill.
