For some goofy reason the coaches did not give up on him-- I can only imagine if BBB was around-- anybody remember what happened to that guy--name was Terry Bradshaw.
I drove back from Ruston in misery Saturday-- decided I was NOT going to Rice Game -- then I calmed down and questioned whether I was a fair weather fan or die hard win or lose guy. I will be in Houston -period end of story .
So hear goes -- while at Tech I saw these games with Southern Miss:
1965 Lost
1966 Lost
1967 Lost 58-7 Shreveport fair ground on Thanksgiving day--Terry B
1968 WON 27-10
1969 lost 24-23
1970 won 27-6
9171 lost 24-23 NO=it did not take me 7 years to graduate-- I stayed for masters and taught English under Dr Sachs went to game in 1965 while in HS
So all the whining and WOE is Me crud being posted I am ignoring. 2015 and 2016 southern Miss games bruised my heart but I refuse to give up on our dogs
We live in horrible times where a computer allows people to post crappy-stupid stuff that they would never say in front of coaches-player etc.
FLORIDA PLAYERS AND COACHES GETTING DEATH THREAT--DRISCOL LEFT THE PROGRAM BECAUSE OF IDIOTS -FOR GOODNESS SAKES-DEATH THREAT
I have personal opinion that overwhelming majority of BBB negative posters have never suited up at college level, had knee surgery, concussions etc--just love to vent crap--again, my opinion .
Every coach ( Dykes-Holtz etc) tell the players-circle the wagons and ignore the posters - yeah, I have been one of the many who refuse to rip players, coaches etc. Yeah, I whine during game and vent with my friends but I respect players who chose Tech and Coaches who represent us....
I promised myself I would not read BBB this week because I knew what it would be like, made the mistake of reading to many posts and pissed off at so much hatred posting -yeah, its the right word HATRED -- its the world we seem to inhabit -- signed a 52 year supporter
I was wondering how long it would take for you to bring up the USM Thanksgiving Day game again. It took longer than I thought. I guess you had some extra batches of super-strength Kool-aid to mix up.
Re: Holtz post game comments
The only two times Holtz has beaten Southern Miss was two of their lowest years. If they have a pulse, they beat Holtz. That is the facts. I bet they lose at home this week to UAB.

I agree. It looks to me like UAB and UNT are running out of gas as the season rolls on. It means a lot for our chances at the CCG. Tech should have won both USM and UAB games, but instead is way back in the standings now.
Amazingly, USM is now the front-runner in the west. If they lose to UAB, a loss to Marshall is likely. I easily see UAB dropping one to UTSA.
Basically, Tech can still have a chance if they win out.

This team is young and lacking confidence right now. They need to exercise some demons in Houston this week and get some swagger and confidence back. I don't think they ever recovered from the letdown of losing at USCe. That is 100% on coaching. Just watch how they tighten up once a play goes against them. I have zero doubt we are 6-1 and at minimum getting votes inside the top 25 if USCe doesn't hit that hail mary. It takes one game to turn around a season with a young talented team. Hopefully we see that game this weekend. This team is still flawed, don't get me wrong, but we have the talent to compete and win in this conference and with this schedule.
Re: Holtz post game comments
I think they need discipline and coaching. Stupid penalties have killed us in the last two losses. Celebrating and doing dances after making a hard tackle for a 15 yd gain reflects on coaching and discipline. FWIW, I don't think "swagger and confidence" is lacking. They need less of that crap.

Large slice of humble pie is good sometimes.

If we're not humbled yet, I don't know what will do the trick.

How can it, if our coach wont shut up about how great they are?
Listening to him talk each week you'd think we just lost to Bama (I know, I picked a scenario Tech fans will be unfamiliar with).

Holtz would never sign such a contract because he can’t do it. Look at the man’s history as a coach. He cannot get to 10 wins a season. He just can’t do it. He’s a steady end of career coach. Nothing will be new or exciting. Just vanilla. The powers that be at Tech were so worried about coaches leaving once they started winning that they hired someone who would never leave. They opted for vanilla. So we have many years of vanilla in our future and it’s just nothing to be excited about.
I love that some on this board (HD) were worried about Holtz leaving for Arkansas. 😂 REALLY???
Vanilla.
Vanilla is a good flavor of ice cream. Of course, I know you mean that term derogatorily. However, you can't put the 3 losses on Holtz or the other coaches. The team was in a position to be 6-1. Lack of execution, bad breaks, and occasional poor officiating costs the wins. Yeah, sure, we could have been up 3 TDs, but we don't have the players on offense to give us a large margin. However, they could execute better.

When you have been doing one thing for 50 minutes and then it gets switched on you during the final 10, that is hard to do IMO. It is especially hard when you don’t have as much skill or experience, which is a big issue for us. Do the players grasp the “run the clock” offense or “prevent” defense? Have the coaches done a good job teaching it so they can transition mid quarter to a different mindset? Enough blame to go around I think.
Re: Holtz post game comments
Holtz praised Rice. Said their 1-6 record is misleading. And! even though he didn't mean it this way, in our case, 1-6 IS misleading! To other teams, those with QBs and a coach with a clue, they would be preparing to make Rice 1-7. Rice has a legit shot...more than a "legit" shot, a REAL shot at being 2-6 after this weekend. Rice did play a tougher, overall, non-conference slate than we did, and they are 1-2 in CUSA just like us. So...
Last night #20 Stanford pulled one out of their azz vs. 1-6 (now 1-7) Ore State. OSU handed Stanford the game when they FUMBLED while running out the clock. Stanford scored with 30 sec left, 15-14 final. So, can 1-6 Rice "upset" a QB-less Tech? Hell yeah! It most certainly can happen. You know Rice thinks so.
Afterwards Holtz will say, see, I told you they were better than their 1-6 record.

The answer (or close to it) is in this.
