He has spent 13 years of his career as a college assistant. Everybody who gets to the position he's in has to earn that position. Yes, he had more advantages than the average college coach, but he's won everywhere he's been except for South Florida.
You actually equate being "a GA" at one of the most storied, and finest college football programs in the land (Notre Dame) --and serving as a position coach at Florida State on Bobby Bowden's staff-- you actually compare those jobs to serving as an assistant football coach at some Class A or AA high school in Louisiana? LOL! You can't be serious. You cannot be for real. LOL!
And yes, I actually think Skip's lack of paying his dues in the past IS a problem. A big problem. That's why Skip has no respect for college walk-ons (e.g., Boston Scott, Hunter Lee, etc..). That's why won't take advice from others (asst coaches, etc...). That's why he is a control freak, who won't change his game strategy, even when its obviously failing (e.g., not benching J'Mar for a few plays, etc...) and he's running off all the fans on game day. That's why he continues to lose to Southern Miss every year, even though he has much better players than they do. Skip won't change because he really thinks he's smarter than everyone else. He really and truly thinks he knows more about QBing a football team than Tim Rattay does. It's a disease called elitism. And Skip has it.

Cleaning the concession stands
Cleaning the bathrooms

That's just a few things
This is what REAL coaches do - and they are not making $100k a year plus and being supplemented by a booster club and provided a vehicle and country club membership
Yeppers! All of that too.

Actually....true confession. I never had to worry about the concession stand. I had a great booster club...3 or 4 ladies who handled all of that stuff. Guess I really don't have anything to complain about, after all :icon_roll: '

.....and I'll bet that job was JUST LIKE being a GA on the University of Notre Dame's football staff, huh? ;)

If we'd only had future NFL starters like Driskel, Dixon, Woods, Brice, and Taylor, man, would we have won a championship or two!

How many OL/DL or LB’s do we have on an NFL roster?

I don't know. Do GAs at Notre Dame have to clean the bus after road trips, and mow and stripe the field before games???
Re: Scott to Join Eagles?
Don’t know about the GA’s , but i’ve heard the assistant coaches got invited to dinner at Lou’s house one evening, when they showed up with their wives they were given paint and brushes and told to paint his house.

We were in the CUSA championship game in 2014 and 2016.... I say we have a recruiting problem and not a x’s and o’s scheme problem. When we have talent we have competed for championships. When we don’t have the talent or we have young talent, we struggle.
Alabama is good because of their skill players, Alabama is great because they control the ball on both sides of the line of scrimmage.

And Houston Bates, and others....whose names escape me at the moment....were good enough to be invited to an NFL camp. Not drafted, but obviously good enough to catch the eye of NFL scouts.
The greater point is Holtz has not had to toil with a lack of talent. HE, yes HE, has underachieved as head coach. That's the truth.
Note: I purposely used the term "underachieved." I am not saying he has not done some "good" things, or that he is not a "good" coach. I am saying he has not achieved as much as should have, given the wealth of talent he's had, and given the solid tradition of Tech Football.
