UTEP is scheduled to have 2 money games on the road (and one FCS game in the Sun Bowl). So they'd probably be looking for a home G6 for 2026.
We could stagger those two @UTEP and hosting TXST in 2026, with the swapped games at some point in the future, 2027 currently booked, but we had a lot of SB series that we'll need to replace. 2028 already has us on the road twice, so we would probably add an FCS home game but could host UTEP (who has two G6 home games on their schedule and could spare a road trip if they're willing to not play an FCS). We could return the game at Texas State anytime after that.
We'll need at least one money game either way. I doubt LSU would want us two years in a row. Stanford the best chance for a win, but probably the most expensive trip and the option with the lowest OOC-purchasing budget.
As for the money game, I'd like to see us play Notre Dame. Tech has never played 'em, and that's a very fun place to visit. It might be good for recruiting too.

I'd go.

It's not unheard of for them to play 2-3 G6 teams these days. They've got Rice already (and Navy, of course) but if the dates line up it might be doable.
Re: 2025 Football Schedule
2026 UL-L FB game has been removed from next year's schedule as well as the contract. The Southern Miss game is still showing. My guess is we assume that the lawyers will do their thing and we'll be in SBC next year, but it might be Spring before it's announced. If we wait until Spring, there are limited openings for next year.
I think Tech & UL-L found replacement games, now Tech & USM are looking for replacements.
I think we'll get a $ game for 9/5 - Miami, Ole Miss, OR 9/26 LSU, aTm, Wake Forest. Stanford & the other USC have openings as well.
Here are teams that we could fill that have openings (not including teams that will likely fill with FCS). All the of the new PAC 12 schools will need to add an opponent (mostly in October/November).
9/5 -
9/19 - Memphis, Temple
9/26 - UTEP, NIU, Temple, Kent St
Non-September - Jacksonville State
FBS college football teams with non-conference openings in 2026
