The lady that works next to me is Mexican, and she gets tamales a couple times a year from a lady in town. She just makes them at her home, and they are phenomenal. I hate tex mex tamales, but these real tamales were amazing.

If anyone visits San Antonio make sure you go to Pico de Gallo http://www.picodegallo.com/index.html
Mi Tierra is excellent as well but be prepared for a wait to be seated http://www.mitierracafe.com/home.html
La Margarita is excellent as well.

Excellent food and a favorite with the locals. All are within walking distance of downtown. We don't get downtown that much because of the drive but went this weekend on an excursion to the missions and ate at Pico.
The Cortez family also owns Pico de Gallo, Mi Tierra at el Mercado and La Margarita downtown. The great thing about San Antonio is you get to your hotel (if you stay downtown) and you can walk to everything. Drink what you want and you can crawl back to the hotel.
Everything I have ever eaten at Pico de Gallo has been absolutely wonderful. This aint Tex-Mex folks.
Oh, and yes, they do serve Menudo (look under soups) and goat at Pico de Gallo.
One more thing, Delicious Tamales http://www.delicioustamales.com/store/home.php
