I don't know what he said, but I don't see us selling a ton of tickets to the Independence Bwol, then declining the invitation. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

If he drop the IB bid, he's lost his mind. Way too much money to loose. Regardless of who the opponent, Tech will be in the Independence bowl.

This is because we aren't playing a SBC team and we knew this before we started taking orders.

Tulsa will NOT fall down from the CUSA Championship game and then be trade to the I-Bowl...
ND is going to Texas in alikelyhood -
IF NCST doesn't agree to come to Shreveport - it could very well be a SBC team -
That's what Van de Velde said at the Lions Club Meeting, but I'm sure you were there. Maybe my dad misunderstood him.

Right.
Re: Memphis more than likely
As far as Memphis goes, I would expect them to bring less than 5,000. Casinos aren't a draw for their fans, they went to the NO Bowl last year, and basketball season has started.
Re: Memphis more than likely
You mean the big bad non bcs juggarnate that Memphis is won't bring 5k?
Re: Memphis more than likely
I think Memphis will travel OK... Not the best travel game in the world. They clearly state that BB games get in the way of the Ibowl on the website.

Hmmm..
Remember
Texas Bowl = NFL Network
Independence Bowl = ESPN
Sun Bowl = CBS
There might just be some lobbying going on with ESPN trying to get ND in one of their bowls.
Re: Memphis more than likely
I would love to get ND here. I just can't see it. I can wish though. ....Dear Santa, I want a new red bike and Notre Dame in the Independence Bowl! :)

I know that ESPN has been working to create a Boise State / Ball State matchup but that has not come to pass. I think your "insider" was assuming the GMAC bowl would provide the stage for that match up which would indeed free up a CUSA team.
But if Boise State goes to the GMAC, the WAC doesn't have enough 7-win teams to fill its bowls plus the Poinsettia.
Re: Memphis more than likely
I took a look on the Memphis Rivals board and they seem to think they are going to the St. Petersburg Bowl. A couple of other prediction sites have that as well. All this guessing is kind of crazy, but kind of fun.

Kinda like dice.....Never know what you'll roll.
