As a former resident of Florida, I can tell you that no one in that state wants to go to USF or Miami. I guess you would have to go to a real university with real University athletic facilities to understand this sentiment.

Try about half that, and it is probably not the school of choice for most of the kids that go there. But Florida has so many students they have to go somewhere.

USF typically brings in about 4k freshman a year (among the various USF campuses), and only about 60% live on campus. They have lots of "non-traditional" students.

there's nothing wrong with being a commuter school...esp when you're in a city of over a million people...
