I don't think that you're comparing on the same network. The phone is prolly on AT&T's/Verizon's 4G network, and then you're using the free internet from the hotel for your laptop

At the office I'm working, my computer is getting horrible numbers, while my phone is getting ping 14; 11 mbps download & 7.71 mbps upload. They are both using the same wifi.
