I guess it depends, in part, if you think we are safer in a multipolar world. If you are comfortable leaving a leadership vacuum and having less of a say in how international agreements are established and how international disputes are resolved. Also whether our security is better protected when more nations have defensive capabilities similar to ours. I am not sure. Post WWII US hegemony has made us fairly secure from attack on our homeland. It is kind of the great unknown as to what would emerge in its place and whether that is good for us.
Apart from that, Germany is second behind us in troops it provides to NATO. Of course, they are quite a bit smaller than us in population, but have a very similar per capita GDP.
