Assimilation would be great. Except, you know, they don't want to assimilate. Some do. Most don't. There's being proud of your heritage and former culture, but it first has to be heritage and former culture, with strong emphasis on former. We can scream until we're blue about how we're built on multiculturalism and immigration, but we're really not. The immigrants of the past assimilated. They didn't completely shed their old ways, but they didn't have their old ways trump the new. Turning the United States into the "old country" just makes the United States worse. That is the direction overall immigration has done to the United States the last 25 years (at least).
