This variant has not made patients as acutely ill as the one that circulated last year, but it is more contagious. I think the reason for that (acutely ill) is just what you stated, most of the people coming in are younger and in fair to good health which tend to do better no matter what the illness is. Most ER's are completely inundated with Covid patients that are standard to telemetry levels of care, and hospitals are holding their ICU beds in reserve for those inpatients that crash.

Here are the actual receipts, and there are some pretty damn goofy people that parade around the title “doctor.”
I forget the doctors name, but in an interview, he stated he had treated over 300 with ivermectin and the only one who was hospitalized was the first patient because he waited to go the doctor until he was more severe. All 300 recovered and 299 without hospitalization…..and the one that was hospitalized was released in less than 3 days. Is that lucky or did the medicine help their recovery?
This makes no sense....

Science governs a lot of my life.
2 genders. The climate is ever fluctuating. The evolving understanding of how this virus spreads and what actually stops it. Math is objective and no amount of social justicing will ever change they 2+2 does not equal 5 and that there are certain parameters that will allow a bridge to hold the load it needs to.
His patently false assertions are grossly out of step with science and he knows it. He gave no evidence for reasoning, just an opinion that he knows is non-consensus and fringe.
https://blogs.scientificamerican.com...y-transphobia/
I am not giving any opinions. Just telling you all what I am seeing and hearing from the stupid local doctors who obviously missed medicine day at medical school….at least according to some who think they are smarter than these doctors.
I guess you skipped over the facts and basis provided in the Scientific American article. Maybe you even looked up some new journal that was just created solely for the purpose of posting fringe out-of-consensus COVID theories under the title “International… [something or another]. Lol.
When are you know-nothings gonna give up on the Trumpian nonsense and return to planet Earth?
No, l looked that up on my own. XY= male, with exceptions being the extreme minority. XX= female, with exceptions being the extreme minority.
https://www.genome.gov/genetics-glossary/Sex-Chromosome
Oh look, a government site. Goosey has to accept it as fact.
You know gender and sex were the same thing 10 minutes ago until someone decided how you feel is what you are. Social science is how you feel. Physical/biological science is what you are. I can feel like a billionaire all day, that doesn’t make me one. Come on Goosey.
Gender used to refer to language, such as "him" and "her" and other references to the SEX of people in sentences. Of course the so-called "progressives," which refers to progress toward total destruction of freedom, seized control of public education and have had us on a path toward communism since the late 19th Century.
Nope. And there aren’t only two sexes given the fact that there are also intersex people.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/cadehil...-spectrum/amp/
The world is a much more interesting and rich place when you actually try to step out of your tribal bubble and understand it.
No, we have manipulated language to say what we feel it should say. Also, why didn’t you refute the NIH website link I sent? Do you agree with this government source which has decades and decades of human history of XX or XY, with exceptions? That seems like a viable sample size from a data collection, clinical trial standpoint. That is what you want, so, you have it.
And the Trump administrations attempt to redefine gender was entirely rejected by medical professionals and experts.
Let the record reflect that Goosey refuses to acknowledge that I specified that exceptions exist and may the record also reflect that he doubts the validity of the government endorsed information which disagrees with his opinion.
And if there is exceptions, then sex isn’t exactly binary either.
Why do all the questionnaires for everything under the sun ask for gender and then offer Male/Female as the choices? Is every survey, doctors office, insurance form, and other just that ignorant?
Unless you are going to some geriatric doctor in a small town that has never confronted a case where the two get a different answer…
Many, if not most, companies are now woke and no longer refer to married couples as husband and wife. It's now a partnership and non-gender/sex.
What antivirals are they giving there just out of curiosity? I know inpatient and in some infusion clinics there's a good bit of Remdesivir given. I know that some are prescribing Ivermectin, and I get it to a degree. We are to the point of throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks.
Only? Lol. You clearly have a lot to learn.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intersex
Bullshit!
You are either male or female...or some mutated variation of one of the two sexes. But you are still a given sex, male of female, perhaps with some abnormality or something. You might be a retarded, physically or mentally or both, male but you are still a male.
It's like Chevrolet turning out Corvettes and some of them come of the assembly line with defects. They are still 'vettes, just flawed ones.
One of these days, doctors will be telling bio women, “yes, we will be performing your vasectomy today.” while performing a hysterectomy. Just so they will be allowed to treat the patient the way science requires. But, in the patients eyes, the doctor will recognize them for who they are.
I honestly don’t know anyone with gender confusion. I don’t know anyone with the biological abnormalities you describe. I know people who are gay or lesbian, but they don’t think they are a different gender. It’s not because I refuse to meet people you describe. I don’t deny they exist. I just haven’t crossed paths with them. I would be interested to know from others on the board if I am alone in my lack of exposure to something that apparently may be far more common than I am aware.
Gender and sexuality are definitely not the same. I know a woman (now presenting as a woman) that is male assigned sex and previously presented as a male. Still married to her wife.
Cost her a lot of money in business when she began presenting as her true self. The South is not a hospitable place to do that. Her wife and colleagues continue to support her though and she feels more at peace.
Still, apart from being unhappy and not at peace, she gave up all the traditional measures of success. No one would choose a different gender for fun or personal benefit. If you are a different gender, you do get to choose whether to present consistently with what you know you really are or suppress it. Transphobia is unnecessarily cruel to people who you should have empathy for.
It’s cheap, therefore it’s not a good treatment. Double blind studies. You’re welcome.

The study (though not yet peer reviewed) shows that if you have mild COVID you are 2.62 times likely to not longer have detectable levels of the virus at day 6 of treatment. The claimed benefit is reduced period of time that you need to be quarantined. Does suggest antiviral activity but this is a small study on a patient population that was likely to recover from mild COVID without intervention (in fact half of the placebo arm had no COVID at day 6 anyway). Meanwhile, you subject yourself to the side effects of ivermectin.
This study doesn’t tell us a whole bunch but it is directionally positive.
Well, if this is true...

Have you seen the latest on Hunter Biden? They showed a video of him last night talking to a prostitute and he said there is a third laptop that he lost and the Russians have it and it has pictures of him doing really crazy sex acts. Do you think the Russians would use this against his daddy? I'd say they already have.
You posted an article written by a shock artist. He took some biology and chemistry classes. He is not a primary care physician. He has become prominent because lemmings follow him on social media. He is one of those I talked about in an earlier post. He stands to gain a lot if the sheep keep following the non science. Don’t trust him.
Most of what he said, especially around viral particle sizes I have already responded to. He misses the point.
And here is a fact check from another sources debunking this “doctor.”

Serious question…..
If there are antibiotics, antivirals, steroids, and antihistamines which are extremely safe and some doctors feel have been effective in fighting C-19 in its various stages, is there any harm in prescribing any of these $8 medicines and sending the patient home with a plan other than, “go to the hospital if you can’t breathe.” They can still advise them to get to an ER if they get worse.
A few things are in play.. main thing is your pulse oxygen levels.. If they dip into the low 90's you need to see your Dr. and get put on oxygen. It's best to have a pulse oxygen monitor at home if diagnosed with Covid. We have had one for years from my days as a volunteer firefighter/paramedic. Other thing is to watch to make sure symptoms don't get worse and you get other complications such as pneumonia etc.
If it were my loved one, I would want them to get the best treatment available that gave them the best odds of preventing serious illness or death.
I agree with respect to regeneron as well. Failed to list it. I just feel very strongly that we have multiple options, but I know of several people who tested positive and a doctor told them to go home and ride it out. Just go to hospital if you get worse.
No they do it in an outpatient sitting which take two to three hours (I think that that's what my wife says) and then they are sent home after an observation period -
But they are not formally admitted/hospitalized - there is a false impression out there that all covid patients are hospitalized and the hospitals/states is driving up the numbers to scare folks into getting vaccinated
I've got good friends who I consider "sane" who believe this nonsense hook, line and sinker

Natchitoches Parish official and authenticated stats on percentage of age brackets fully vaxxed.
Age 12-17 34%
Age 18-64 37%
Age 65+ 65%
This is the % of those population groups fully vaxxed. Only 37% of most of the adult population. The % for those with just one dose is higher, for instance it's 44% for the 18-64 age group.
Now Goosey will post you're getting your yank cranked...or whatever.
I see that WHO guy is saying the most likely Patient Zero was a Wuhan Lab worker. Yes, until I see something from another reliable source, I am staying with the original report of Patient Zero being that woman janitor. The Aussies and Japs, via their intelligence services, reported that early on. Her date of death, from the China virus, aka SARS II var: Covid-19, is November 19, 2019.
And of course WHO kowtowed to the Chicoms, everyone with a brain knew that when it happened.
“An employee of the lab gets infected while working in a bat cave collecting samples. Such a scenario, while being a lab leak, would also fit our first hypothesis of direct transmission of the virus from bat to human. This is a hypothesis that we consider to be likely,” Peter Ben Embarek told the Danish public channel TV2.
Well then, you don't know what is. Especially since you are the one hoodwinked by misinformation all the time.

It's not very often that I am on the fence on issues. But, truthfully on the whole mandates, masking vs. non-masking, the real effective of the vaccines, the real death rate... this is as close to being a fence-sitter as I ever get. And as such, I catch grief from both sides. This is why folks tend to be "tribal" on matters. Gonna catch hell, so might as well take a position and stand with those who agree with that view point.
The French are going ballistic over the so-called vax passports, and 450,000 people took to the streets of Paris in protests. In Australia the frickin' army has been turned out to keep people from traveling more than 6 miles from their homes. Wow! in a freedom-loving country like that!?
Much closer to home I have family and friends who are at polar opposites on the issues. All are very passionate in their beliefs...and I find myself in unfamiliar territory playing peace keeper. As one VERY liberal friend reminded me, quoting from the Bible, "blessed are the peace makers."
Masking is about control. Period.
Distancing is common sense, but the idiots in charge call for shutdowns instead of natural (or getting the shots) immunity.
Like this time last year, those at risk need to stay their ass at home rather than look at those who refuse to mask as "the problem".
I can already tell you that our inbred governor force us back to the limited seating for outdoor events.
Had COVID last October.... in both lungs and double pneumonia.
Was as careful as could be....social distancing, mask, etc. the mask don’t help a damn bit. My doctor counseled to get an oxygen meter and if be,ow 92, go to the hospital. On day 8, I knew I was trouble. Found a doctor that treated me with steroids, antibiotics (to reduce inflammation), inhaler. That was a thursday. Saturday morning I coughed up all the mess in my lungs. My follow up the next Tuesday, I was making antibodies.
I have seen friends get ivermectin right off the bat and do great. I have seen friends get the plasma right off the bat and do great. I am no medical expert but I truly believe our health care system is behing handcuffed.
Treat early and aggressively. If you are high risk, stay at home.
I did get the phizer vaccine because I still travel and know that I will need a vaccine passport. I go in every 90 days for antibody testing. My last antibody test before vaccine was 182 positive. That is 10 months after getting sick.
It took me 6 weeks to fully recover and get my strength and energy back. I am still playing catch up at work....unreal.
If you get sick, don’t wait. Find a doctor that will treat you ASAP. Don’t make the same mistake I did and think that you will shake it off.
Also, have a business associate and friend that contracted COVID in summer of 2020. His doctor treated him with z pac to reduce inflammation in his lungs, prednisone and plaquinil (sp?). He went from bad sick to back on his feet in 3 days. He is late 50s but not overweight.
Again, there are treatments available - you have to find the right doctor.
Friend of ours got it. Early 30’s. He refused to get any treatment and elected to stay home and ride it out. His mom is a nurse who has seen early intervention work and he still thought he was tough enough to just get over it. It’s been a couple of months and he still isn’t back to form physically. Early treatment is key and these new variants appear to replicate faster. Original virus might make you worse in 5-7 days. Newer strains are making people sicker much faster. ACT EARLY!
Our healthcare system isn’t being handcuffed as much as it’s woefully understaffed. Dangerously understaffed. You can’t possibly prepare for an increase in volume of this magnitude. In 23 years I have never seen the amount of holdovers waiting for a bed in ERs for this length of time. If something isn’t done soon, the system will be completely overwhelmed to the point of collapse. That is not something I heard from someone, that’s something I’m telling you is absolute truth.
some local hospitals are just reaping what they have sown. Understaffed because they either can’t or refuse to pay market value for good employees. My wife has worked as an RN for 16 years. She and her coworkers just for their first significant pay bump in over a decade. She is now making essentially the starting salary of nurses in surrounding states. If we were totally dependent on her income to sustain our standard of living, we would not be in Louisiana. This may not be the issue in other parts of the country, but it is a major factor here.
It’s a multifaceted problem and that’s part of it. Whenever Louisiana became a compact state a couple years ago, it made it much easier for nurses to cross state lines and go to work without the hassle of applying for a license. Then Covid hit last year, and a lot of them left going on travel assignments making insane amounts of money. 7-8 k per week in some places that was hardest hit. A lot of them never came back, or made enough money to stay at home and ride this out.
Great post and information. Seems like a big fail by the medical community to me. So many doctors are afraid of their shadow and will not treat COVID aggressively in the early stages, probably causing a lot of folks to end up at the hospital that didn't need to be.
