USWNT 8 Paraguay 0
More of the same...
So, what’s the deal with USWNT being offered equal pay to the men and getting mad about it?
Unions, lawyers, media...are all involved in driving the discourse.
A judge dismissed a good portion of the women's lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation, which is the governing body that oversees both national teams. The judge cited raw numbers showing the women actually grossed more money than the men last year. The USWNT Player's Union has filed an appeal stating the women grossed more because they played way more games than the USMNT did. Well, actually, during this most recent 3-year CBA contract. That is due to the women playing in the 2019 World Cup and the 2021 Olympics and all the prep games (extra matches) connected to those two tournaments. The men's team failed to qualify for the WC and Olympics and thus played fewer games.
The Soccer Federation advanced a new CBA proposal as a renewal to the 3-year contract (pending) whereby the Federation WILL PAY the teams exactly the same. That will be the base salary for ALL players, men and women. But....the agreement also has bonuses built in based on FIFA's payouts and the men stand to make a lot more than the women. Just like men's and women's college basketball, for instance, international men's soccer makes $billions, while women's soccer barely pays the bills from sponsorships, gate receipts (except for the USWNT which does very well), TV contracts which is HUGE!!! The Men's World Cup Finals, every 4 years, is the most watched sports in the world, and no other event, even the Olympics, comes close. So! the US men players stand to make HUGE bonuses from said revenue streams, and the US women, not very much.
This is the source of the "getting mad about." The women's players union says the Soccer Federation's contract offer of equal pay is merely for PR and designed to deflect criticism aimed at it. The US Soccer Federation is like CUSA and FIFA is like the NCAA, our national association is a member of FIFA, the international governing body, and can only abide by its policies.
Now, I have seen some suggestions that the Federation should pay the USWNT three times as much in base salary and allow the men to make that up via the FIFA bonuses.
Hope this helps...
I had seen some info, but it all seemed biased against the women. Wasn’t sure how accurate or transparent that info was.
Scoreless at halftime in Austin. Should be playing 11 v 10 or 11 v 9 in this one as the rookie referee should be waiting until the next qualifying cycle before he gets another match.
Pepi buries a beautiful service with ease.
Pepi 2 Jamaica nil.
And that's how it ends. Could have been 3 or 4 with a couple of other chances just missed.
It was against the bottom of the table side though.
Trip to Panama City awaits Sunday night.

Got all the way to the 58th minute before the first warning was issued to fans at Azteca.
And it ends 1-1.

Great win in a must win game.
Some thoughts:
1. Pepi is our 9. For now he is getting it done, and he’s only 18! Saw somewhere that the first goal was ALL players U20! That is incredible. Talk about a rich future ahead. Now they need to focus on development. Pepi will be playing in Europe in 2022.
2. Aaronson is my favorite player on the pitch. Really high passion and work rate in play. Love the Medford Messi.
3. Arriola was probably the worst of the starters. Would rather see Weah starting, but my hunch is Berhalter was saving him for the next two games coming so quickly.
4. Concacaf refs are the worst and no VAR for WCQ? It’s bush league. That was a red card and should have been a goal kick for aaronson in the first half. The rule is clear. He was beat and took away a sure shot on goal with a tackle.
5. Defense played sound except for Jamaica’s set pieces. Turner is number 1 goalie right now.
6. Top of the table. Heading to Panama!
When will Reyna be back? Other than that MIA, this young side is looking pretty good. Leave no doubt! Can't afford to miss a second straight WC Finals. To think Ricardo Pepi thought about playing for Mexico...but ultimately made the right choice. whew!
Need a result in Panama. Want the 3 points, should get the 3 points, but at absolute worst, come away with 1 point.
Berhalter still sucks.
pathetic performance.
plays a bunch of mls scrubs, and they look like mls scrubs. Pathetic.
"Pathetic" is a compliment. What's a term much worse than that?
