"getting use to it"? You were a true metal head at one time, Lynard Skynard, Boston........ for example.

Those groups were rock
To be honest, I like their music, just not fond of the screaming vocals. When they aren't screaning, it's actually pretty good.

I hope they stick with it.
Re: What are you listening to Today?
Rock, progressive rock, I still don't know the difference between rock and pop. My middle offspring is a great piano and keyboard player. He wanted me to take him to Las Vegas for his 15th BD to hear Journy with their new singer. I took him and somehow I was able to get him in the meet and greet after the show. I have a great picture of him with Jonathan Cain (keyboard) who wrote and/or co-wrote most of their hits. At 14 he could play most of the Journy songs from memory. I don't know where he gets it - all I can do is whistle

they are. They're recording 2 of their songs in a professional studio in February. Several more established bands have asked them to open for them.
My son is very realistic about it. School comes first, then the band. They threatened to toss one of the guitarists if he doidn't enroll n college this spring.
If they find the lightning in the bottle they'll go with it. If not, they'll enjoy what they're doing.
As a Dad, it's fun to go watch them play and to see the audience respond.
Re: What are you listening to Today?
I went upstairs and pulled BP away from the piano where he was singing and playing and we listened to EF on youtube. BP loves it, I think I am about where you are on it - great music, but screaming is an aquired sound. We played it over again.

Was RUSH the 80s band where some/most/all of the members had music degrees and some maybe even had a Phd in music?

Rush is definitely "progressive rock". It would not surprise me if one or more of them had music degrees.

I'm not sure about Rush, but I think all the original members of Dream Theater were music majors.
Tom Scholz of Boston had an EE degree form MIT.

I'll send (or hand them to you when I'm in S'port) a CD of what they've already recorded (6 songs at an intermediate sudio). These next 2 are being done at a pro studio.
For Christmas, I gave Evan a very good handheld digital audio recorder (i was the recorderer tonight). We're also looking for a good low loghr digitsl video recorder. Between these 2 we should be able to get a dececnt audio/visual "thing" to post on youtube/Myspace/ et. al.
Re: What are you listening to Today?
That gives a little insight into how Scholz was able to make an electric guitar do things nobody else had even considered possible. that is what we listened to the night of the infamouse carjacking. you were pretty darn bold.
