The worst part of watching this year is knowing we will not make a change and we will endure at least 1 more year of the same. Even if they make a change after next year, it will be too late. Your man has truly sucked the life out of this program- all in one short year.
Not my man. I just know the hand he was dealt and I anticipated this season. Many were expecting no drop off and are stunned at what a rebuilding year looks like, so he gets the blame for it. My not blaming him should not be construed as supporting him. I'm just willing to give him more time. If we fired him right now, the next guy would still be dealing with the same stuff he's dealing with and y'all would want him fired too. (Wow, I'm already defending the next coach!)
You're on here arguing with everyone who posts anything negative about Skip, and you have been for the past 6 or 7 weeks. For 16 hours a day. Seven days a week. Seriously. And he's not your man? I know husbands and wives that wouldn't go to the lengths to which you've gone in his defense. Yes, we have some positions lacking talent. Yes, Skip would be a better coach with great players. Everyone gets it. But all the hypotheticals and blame of Dykes don't change the fact that the Skipster is not a good HC. One of these days you'll realize it just like the rest of us did in week 2. On the bright side, you might pass Champion110 in total number of posts by the time it all sinks in.
Funny thing is that what Cal fans seem to be most disappointed in, other than their 1-11 record, is the lack of noticeable improvement throughout the year.
Their styles may have been similar, but what about effectiveness? What about the culture? I have never believed that Dooley was a great coach, but Dooley came in and changed the culture. He talked to Reneau in ways that no one has ever talked to him. He was the catalyst behind the schedules that Dykes and Holtz inherited. The way you present it, we were just in a natural cycle and we would've had the same success regardless who the coach was. I think that's crazy (so do any number of schools who pay good money for coaches…why pay Skip 500K when we can get a guy like Bicknell or Berry for 200K?).
You mentioned elsewhere that it would be good for our psyche to fire Holtz. Sometimes, just the psyche is a good enough reason. You saw the numbers at our last 2 home games. Soon LTAC will take a hit. As long as we are wise with our hire, we will come out ahead financially.
