That is a Christmas decoration. Christmas....."Christ Day"......."Jesus Day". BTW, the nativaty is easily seen below the sign.
Family told to lose Christmas, Jesus display after neighbor calls it ‘offensive’

If you read the article, the problem was a neighbor found the display (sign, whatever you want to call it "offensive." The HOA''s subsequent claim of a sign violation is spurious and is simply a pretext.

Did the HOA make them remove the nativity?

According to usa today "So far, the Wivells have not been formally cited for the display, which they plan to keep up until Jan. 15 — a date set by the homeowner association for removal of holiday decorations."

That is how my HOA deals with displays that violate the rules. It is essentially unenforced for Christmas because the displays don’t last for much longer than a month. You get the letter and then take down your display after the holidays.

Nothing wrong with either.

Now how do you know this little fact? Are you the one from your HOA sending the complaint letters to Christians?

Because one of my neighbors gets a letter every year about his inflatable snowman. Always says it must be removed within 30 days.

That's really stretching it. Why a snowman? Does your neighborhood hate Christmas so much they even protest a so called "Winter Holiday"? Strange.

HOAs have rules ostensibly for the purpose of preserving and increasing home values. The management companies that manage HOAs in my area tend to be draconian with their enforcement of the rules and try to avoid making reasonable exceptions. They find it easier just to apply the rules strictly. It has nothing to do with Christmas in particular. They do the same thing for every single thing you want to do that changes the appearance of your property.
