Re: First Look at GATAVision
I can't tell, is the object circled a big crate or is it brick?
Re: First Look at GATAVision
I know this sounds dumb but obviously this thing is strong enough that a football kicked into it will not hurt it right?

Good question, but I assume that a football won't hurt it. In honor of the KA's and their cannon, we will get two guys with shotguns and take down any balls approaching the screen. Will make for some fun.

I doubt it'll hurt it...it's built to be out in the elements. I don't think a football will hurt it.
Also...
According to Dwayne
http://www.latechbbb.com/forum/showt...562#post759562"It would take a hell of a kick to hit that screen....
I've seen very few kickers hit the old board on PAT's and short field goals -"

Years ago, my grandfather was a season ticket holder at TECH. He loved going to our games. He wanted to know how much it would cost for him to have a parking space right outside the gate, basically right next to the president. They told him that no amount of $$$ would buy him a space there. He asked them why his Alumni dues and 8 season tickets to all 3 major sports was not enough to earn a parking space. He was told that he was not considered a VIP. Soon after he pulled his ticket reservations and got the same # of tickets to guess where- LSU. They thought so much of him that he got invited to sit in the governors box several times per season.
That is how a donor should be treated. I have probably posted that story before when we discussed fan support issues for TECH, but it still applies. Sure wish my Pops had kept his TECH tickets cause it would do me a ton of good now.
How many years ago was this?

How long ago did this incident take place?
This was back in the 60's, and yes the response from TECH would be different now. Over the past 20 years or so, the old ways that TECH worked have been fading out. They now show much more gratitude even to the lowest of donors.
As for DONW and others who don't believe me, that is fine. I have heard plenty of stories from my dad and uncles about sitting with Gov. McKeithen and watching LSU games.
Why do I feel I need to prove myself to people I haven't met and might not care to?

Since you mentioned this was back in the 60's, your grandfather must have been talking about the old stadium that was located on campus. The reason he could not park next to the stadium was because there was no parking lot there. There was only a street that went between the stadium and the Wilson cafeteria. Most people parked along Tech Drive or in the men's dormitories' parking lot or wherever they could find a parking place. I think your grandfather told you this to justify supporting lsu over his own alma mater.
