I agree with that.

At no point did Smith look shaken up by LSU’s defense. In fact, he seemed to get more comfortable throwing against the unit as the game progressed. It’s the first time this season LSU’s defense has looked that vulnerable, especially in the secondary as Louisiana Tech just seemed to convert on third downs with mid-range passes right at the first-down marker at will in the second half.
“We never thought that we had the game,” Orgeron said. “Against an explosive offense like that, we just never thought that we had the game won. It took everything that we had from our first team.”
That one drive seemed to give Louisiana Tech the spark it needed to get its offense going as it scored on the opening drive of the second half, then two drives later to get within a field goal of the Tigers.
The Bulldogs did so with remarkable efficiency on third down. They converted on four of their first six third down plays in the second half, the last of which was a 42-yard bomb from Smith to his favorite receiver all night Adrian Hardy.
Hardy had more success against LSU’s secondary than any other receiver all season, and it didn’t matter which corner the Tigers had assigned to him. He caught passes against Kristian Fulton, Greedy Williams and Kelvin Joseph in a career night marked by 181 yards and two touchdowns.
It's not bashing, professor. Every LA Tech fan on this board was cheering for J'Mar and his teammates to be successful last night. But if you can't look back at that game video last night and freely acknowledge the late arriving passes from J'Mar causing us problems (including an INT and some batted balls in the first half), then you either don't know football, or you're just choosing to be dishonest. As others have acknowledged, J'Mar also has problems with putting a soft touch on the ball at close range, and he may be the worst running QB in Tech history. It's not that he can't run, he just refuses to do it. And after 18 starts, that's frustrating.
As far as I know, no Tech fans here are "rooting for Southern Miss's QB". That's a typical response from a "Fake News" journalist. Don't be typical. You're obviously just upset that Jack Abraham is killing it at USM, and that by the time we play USM he might actually be a real threat to LA Tech's chances at a CUSA championship, just as I warned you and others. But, facts are facts. Barring an injury, Abraham's only going to get better. Of course, you wouldn't know that, because you are a journalist, and as we all know Journalist don't deal in facts anymore.
Justin McVicker @JDMac84 @Realrclark25 @mspears96 How is J’mar Smith at LaTech and not a Tiger???
Tyler Nunez @ByTylerNunez J'Mar Smith with a bomb. Touchdown Tech. #LSU 24, LA Tech 21. Not ideal for the Tigers
Brian Holland @BHollandSports I'm really impressed with Louisiana Tech's QB J'Mar Smith. Lots of arm strength & smart escapability #LSU #LaTech
Brandon Adam @badam J'Mar Smith has done a really good job navigating the pocket tonight. He's given himself time and delivered.
Andrew Lopez J'Mar Smith has been impressive evading defenders in the pocket and making the right throw on key downs.
Cody Worsham On his last 13 attempts J'Mar Smith is 11-of-13 for 136 yards and two scores. LSU has to figure out how to shut him down.
You have to admit, he showed improvement against a good defense. He still has his flaws, but he took shots over the middle where he hasn’t before and made good reads most of the night. Burrows threw several that should have/could have been intercepted.
J'Mar looked good. This is the first game with real competition where I thought he looked pretty seasoned. Our run defense absolutely killed us. Two turnovers in the first half was bad enough, but the LSU run game in the first half sealed the deal.
Yep HD, I'm paying all of these LSU fans and journalists to make up lies stating how impressed they are with Louisiana Tech's starting QB. I explained to them that he is can't throw or run, holds the ball too long, throws too hard, throws to soft, won't run when he should have, can't slide, is only the starter because he has a conspiracy going with Skip Holtz, has no touch on his passes, and is no Jack Abraham, so they agreed to keep it just between the "all of us".
Now you run on back over to the CUSA board and keep telling the UNT fans how we're going to blow them out of their stadium next Saturday with one of the worst QBs we've ever had.
I agree there were time J'Mar was late with a pass, but last night I can't really remember a pass he threw where I was cringing after he released it or wondered "who is he throwing it to?" If I had any criticisms it would be this;
1) when he stands in th pocket, he STANDS in the pocket. There were several times when he dropped back and he planted his feet. As a QB you want to be moving in the pocket, even if it's stable you want to climb back up in the pocket and change the aim point for pass rushers. Watch any good QB and you'll see their feet are always moving, even if they aren't moving around in the pocket.
2) there were several plays where he could have run and picked up positive yards. I'm not expecting him to be Michael Vick or Steve McNair, but there were a few plays where there was nothing but green grass in front of him and he was still looking someone to throw to. He might have only picked up three out four yards, but a three yard gain is better than no gain because you winged it at a guy 10 yards away and he drops the ball. Those kinds of plays are backbreakers for a defense because they played everything perfectly and still have up yardage. Next thing you know, they have to start keeping someone at home to account for the QB, and guys start getting open.
He had some throws that he missed on, but other than that he had a good game.
The most frustrating thing is that it they had played the entire game the way they played that 3rd quarter, they could have won.
Smith for the Hypesman!
Coach Holtz just signed J'Mar up for these "Electric Slide" classes.....:icon_razz:
