Don't speak for me please. I care GREATLY about Louisiana Tech's brand. LA Tech, La Tech, "lah tech" pronunciation by a game announcer,... is simply not a big deal. EVERYONE knows we are talking about LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY.
Now puppy dog cartoon head logos with no LA Tech and similar text totally destroys our branding and logo recognition. That could be anybody. The complaints are severely misguided.

Good point. Especially, the Cute" one W/O Tech on the collar. That thing could be considered an affront to real Bulldogs. :D

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
The "Lah" Tech doesn't bother me....although I guess it should. After all, you never hear "Vah" Tech, or "Jah" Tech, or even "Tex" Tech. Those schools always have their full name used.
I don't even know why anyone, including some goofy sports TV dude, would want to say "El" "A" Tech. That's three syllables. "Lah" Tech is just two.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I will say as I always have, I write La Tech, but have always said Louisiana Tech. My parents and grandparents always say/said Louisiana Tech. Simple.

That's a bit dramatic and completely asinine to imply that I don't care about the brand. If I didn't care I wouldn't be on here, I wouldn't travel thousands of miles for games, and I wouldn't be sportin' Tech gear when I'm going to the grocery store or flying around the continent.
I care more about reputation than a pronunciation. I care more about championships than a pronunciation. I care more about both teams playing in March Maddness than a pronunciation. I care more about making it to the College World Series, doubling the endowment, getting a new coach for the Dunkin' Dawgs, curb stomping power 5 schools in all sports (especially in state), and for heaven's sake - replacing pepsi with coke. But now I'm getting a bit dramatic.

And for the most part we've had that brand fall into our lap.
There are individuals perhaps too close to the situation that don't see that. They don't see this in any way from an outsider's point of view and how valuable that brand has become over time.
I travel a lot too. When someone looks at my shirt or hat that says "LA TECH" they always say "oh, you went to Louisiana Tech", not ellaye tech.

Because Lah Tech is stupid too. And, the argument the pro LAH folks used is the exact same one that can be used to keep LA Tech.
There’s a proverb in here somewhere.

I wasn't implying that you didn't care about the brand. I wanted to make that distinction by posting a follow up which you replied to. I just believe I have a different perspective given my travels and contact with individuals across the country. Individuals within college and professional athletics as well as sports fanatics and casual fans. To be where we want to be 10 years from now it's all going to matter. Everything you listed as well as an incredibly strong brand.
I've done about 350 weeks on the road in the past 25 years. It's given me a better understanding of just how valuable that brand is - both the state T logo and "Lah Tech". I've heard "Lah Tech" used by those outside our fanbase over the decades many more times more than Louisiana Tech. In state more people use Louisiana Tech or just "Tech". That hasn't been my experience elsewhere.

Ironically, the last 10 posts alone have more market research than was done total before making the branding overhaul.

It should be Tech or Louisiana Tech during games. The we don't have to worry about L A or Lah.
Unless we are playing another Tech

Yes, because whining about it is infantile, like I said before the people on here fighting the complacency of the admin, come off like hypersensitive ULL fans... Lah or ElAye doesn't matter as long as they're talking about us.
Also, when I was enrolled there were L. A. Tech chants/cheers done...

I roll my eyes at some of this stuff from some schools. Which is why I try to just grit my teeth and get past the "lah" Tech stuff (which I personally don't like).
But every school in the country works on this stuff to some degree. Everybody has their naming standards, etc. USC and South Carolina had a big fight about who gets to officially use their initials a few years back. I remember seeing media guides in the past with very clear "don't call us this thing that we often get called because we want to be this, this, or this" in them (not just for us). The thing with ULL isn't that they are trying to push a preferred naming convention through so much as what it is that they want to force people to call them (and yeah, you can only ask, even when our media guide I believe used to ask that announcers not use "lah tech" for us, they did it anyway).
It's worth correcting, but fans aren't going to be able to control this (at least not our number of fans), it's got to be the administration and the fans together.

Nothing more difficult than trying to correct stupid mistakes made by academia. It's an easy fix but remember these are the same people who tell us we can get sued for using DAWGS instead of dogs. Sadly it is such an easy fix

Maybe it was an easy fix, but LA Tech is a thing now. Making the “A” lower case is a little late.

Making thishttp://latechbb.weebly.com/uploads/2...84799_orig.gif our primary logo when we already had thishttps://fanapeel.com/wp-content/uplo...a-behind-t.png

Nah. Destruction and repair are two totally different skill sets. The current destruction was started by precious over a decade ago. It has a life of its own. I prefer our admin to work on competitive teams and selling tickets...those are the things that are impactful from a branding perspective.

They've been competitive in the branding sports that matter.
- Football's next step is being ranked and/or the access bowl. Selling tickets is on our inept AD.
- MBB - I'm not sure a G5 from the south can gain branding from this sport w/out a dominant player, but selling tickets is on our inept AD.
- Baseball. We've about maxed out on this for the past two years and IMO gained some branding.
It's not too late to change our brand. It is still new even to many of our fans.
1. Stop using the spelled out "logo for dummies".
2. Stop going for the Lah Tech sound. Change the marketing to Louisiana Tech to be pronounced Louisiana Tech.
3. Stop using the capital LA unless it is followed with a capital TECH. Latech or LATECH, but never LATech.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
We just could not resist the opportunity to shoot ourselves in the foot with LA Tech. Makes us look almost as stupid as UL-Lafayette.

Wait we had 50 years of tradition? Fake news, we biotched about having no traditions for years and years. Despite it being very identifiable the State-T had so many variations (not just color) it was crazy.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
They went overboard. We did not need the spelled out version. All we needed was uniformity with the designs and colors.
It's an easy fix.

I’m not sure what that means, but it doesn’t change the fact that our original State T (without the Los Angeles Tech) should be our only logo, and certainly only with a white T on red football helmets.

Easy as in not costly to initiate. People still don't do the Lah Tech thing consistently so that part is not a big deal at all. No telling how much extra ink and cost of signage we've wasted, but I'm not saying we immediately destroy all the "state T for dummies" we just phase it out. I wouldn't take long.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I have additional objections to the wordmark logo (besides the fact that thats a contradiction in terms). The aspect ratio means that you have to compress the logo by about 2x to fit it in the available horizontal space. The State T is nice and nearly square: it shows up much better in a ticker bar because it can be twice as big. Pay attention to this next time you see the "logo" in a score bar. I can't unsee it now. The State T is so tiny we might as well just have "TECH" typed out and no logo at all.

I had the same complaint when they switched to that logo on the front part of the helmet. It was too small to recognize what it was. We should have left it as TECH. The classic StateT logo has been disappearing in athletics unfortunately. I remembering ranting about it in a basketball post after they put up the alleyway covers and the videoboard.

Correct. The small "a" looks weak and insignificant compared to the other letters. It screams "Lah Tech".
-
Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
The purpose of the current logo below is to have all of the letters equally capitalized, save for the enlarged emphasis on the "T" in Tech. It's a beautiful thing. Get used to people. It's our logo.

The The State-T is great, its the University's main logo. LATECH logo is also fine, its a sub-logo, and refers to the athletics, its fitting enough since that is typically what is on the score bugs on TV or the scoreboards. Keeps people from trying to put LTU anywhere. And then there is the Dog and Techster logos that refer to the specific men's and women's teams that need differentiation.
Its all ok to use.

the LaTech State T isn't meant for Tech fan's and grads, it's a way to make sure anyone watching can identify who they're watching. Theirs a lot of false-consensus bias going on here "I know what that logo means so everyone should" wrong. And people that don't know what it means aren't bad people but our university wants to give them the chance to understand it. Hell there are people in the USA that can't identify that as the state of Louisiana, if you just saw the State-T and googled Louisiana T, Tech doesn't show up (in fact a Ragin Cajun link shows up at the end of the page!), same if you switch it around T Louisiana or even the State of Louisiana with a T on it. Tech doesn't come up at all, but put in LA TECH and bam our webpage is first.
We are trying to grow enrollment, grow exposure, until/unless we become household name we need to make sure it's clear every time and to everyone when we are on media, who we are. As nice as the plain State-T looks it doesn't do that.

I'm a bit confused on your position. First you advocate for words because no one knows what the state-block-T stands for, which I 100% disagree with. Then you say no to Blue Dawg's suggestion of "words" to better explain who we are. Seems to me you need to make up your mind.

Still doesn't tell them what the hell the T on the state means, or what our name is... these are things that you want the person across the restaurant/bar to see and not have to think about so after awhile they say oh yeah I've seen LaTech on TV a lot, or their a pretty good school/team etc. Have the kid that walks through the room as dad is watching be able to ID it without asking or really thinking at all. But hey ya'll are marketing experts...:icon_roll:

Why have a logo at all? Just type up LOUISIANA TECH in comic sans and be done with it.

Its a ballgame on TV. What else would the T mean? It was around for over 40 years before Dooley (not a marketing expert) decided to dumb it down.

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I have no problem knowing who these are and have NEVER had anyone asked what school the T on top of the shape of Louisiana is.... They know........

Yep
Don't need the LA or TECH word mark on the State and Block T

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
This thread is not down on LaTech or LATECH or Louisiana Tech being used as an ID. It is down on LATech and the LA(BlockT)ECH used as the primary logo. Both scream EllAye Tech.

A minority, highly astute, oppose LaTech branding as well because, despite our limited marketing experience, we can tell when something is stupid.

I didn't like it but it was what they decided to use as our brand. THEN they chose a really bad way to market it and changed the only thing that had ever really worked

Re: We got El A Tech'd again.
I bet we will have Clinton indictments before someone grades up to that blunder.

Unlike most of our easily avoidable screwups, though, Tech fans are largely divided on the issue, as this thread shows (heck there are even some who like the invisible T on the helmets).

No, Charlie Brown. You were just not smart enough to understand the blatant sarcasm inserted with the little roll eyes GIF. And if you weren't smart enough to catch that, you're a great example of the fact that Germdawg was right; everyone will not be smart enough to understand the state that our stand alone "state T" represents.

What are you croaking about? You just like the naked, stand alone "T" all by itself because you can't read more than that. ;)

It's NOTHING like what LaLaff is complaining about. They are doing something legally wrong, bragging about it, then complaining when a few in the Louisiana system refuse to go along.
We are complaining about a bad marketing move that has people calling us EllAye Tech. It's an easy fix.

Well, Lucy, this reads as you are thoroughly disgusted with Blue Dawg's post. That you totally disagree with it. Like....really? Blue Dawg you are a moron.
Guess you're not smart enough to make a sensible post.

Can we at least all agree that we were better off before any changes were made, regardless of which change you support or hate?

If you don't have an issue with it, it makes no difference.

You're slower than a snail. I did disagree with Blue Dawg's post. I responded negatively to his recommendation to add "Ruston" and "Founded in 1894" to the logo.
