Now those coaches can see players from all across the country play in the shoe summer leagues. It's just a different world in 2019 than it was in 1989.
AAU existed then too. I believe Malone played on a team with Dumars, Hot Rod Williams, and Benny Anders, a member of Phi Slama Jama... if you believe kids weren’t recruited back in the day.

He’s just saying it different. It is. Our best wing who’s from Maryland and gets all the PT he wants, wants out.

I don't know about Hot Rod - but I do know it was Malone from Summerfield, Bailey from Minden, and Benny Anders from Bernice and Dumars with Jack Thigpen as head coach

Maryland is a long way from Louisiana. Any chance he got homesick? Atmosphere at Tech b’ball games isn’t always great. I think the biggest key for Tech success is regional recruiting. Maybe we need to take a chance on the kids from Summerfield, Simsboro, Zwolle, Minden, Bossier, Shreveport....it has worked for us before.

I agree. Get the best players available first, but we have to get some local guys. Duruji is probably better than anyone we could get regionally, same for Daquan. Could we find a local Oliver Powell?
Thinking about our team, I feel like we actually have some good players. I couldn’t say Archibald, Christon, Jean, or Pemberton in that paragraph.

So, you don’t think there are any 2-3 * 6’7” small forwards in a 250 mile radius of Ruston, La with similar athletic abilities to Duruji? I find that really hard to believe.

We offer lots of folks from Louisiana, but they don't come to Ruston. Maybe they don't like konkol ??

Similar probably. They’re going to major conferences. He had a very special athletic skill set. Konk’s east coast ties have to be the only reason we got him and Day day
Re: Anthony Duruji & Ra'Shawn Langston are transferring
I love when schools recruit regionally. There are quite a few Weeziana kids playing for 1 of our local EYBL teams the last few years...so there is definitely talent abound.
I wish DFW schools did a better job of it. Theyve improved, but far from where they should be.
Seeing the schools of interest for Duruji...what does it mean if he doesnt end up near home or on the east coast?

Coach Skinn was the reason we got both those players. I saw where Minnesota, Syracuse, and George Mason have all reached out to Duruji.
Also, Kyle has officially transferred so we now have that spot we all assumed would be opening.

They didn't like Mike White either. Or Kerry Rupp. Richard actually recruited local high schools better than our latest crop of coaches. Of course, he also relied heavily on JUCO transfers, too. For the most part, the players who can play in CUSA either go to bigger schools or leave the state. The players who want to come play for us are Sun Belt/Southland players. That's why we head out of state. It's not a new problem, but it's one we have to solve.
