They were a 3 to 5 win program when they were on a level playing field from s scholarship standpoint before Cost of Attendance. Without cost of attendance, they are winless.

Exactly. He could be Andy Reid and we'd never know.

Maybe it was the whopping 341 yds of total offense that racked up last week against UNT, who actually totaled 386, that you found so impressive?
It's not necessarily that we're talking about Gary Crowton or Tony Franklin levels of production on offense. It's more that I like some level of coaching stability on our staff. Also, for better or worse he's associated with us now, so if he goes there and fails, that would be a bummer for me because of that association and if he goes there and succeeds that would be a bummer for me because in that case where the heck was that level of genius when he was on staff with us?
I'm not arguing that he's irreplaceable. Just that I'd rather not lose him, and particularly not to ULM. If you're ready to fire him anyway (which you may be) then clearly that would be less of a concern.

Again, I'm not asking how they succeed objectively relative to all of FBS. What is their best course of action to be the best ULM they can be? How do they get back to 5 wins? Could they get to 6? If so, how? If not, are you saying they're capped at 2-3 wins per year? If so, who gets them there instead of 0? Anyone? What is the best approach for them?

Best approach is the most sensible approach. Drop football. We know that will never happen in this politically corrupt state, so what can they do?
1. Cost of Attendance is a must. Find that money.
2. Hire a young up and coming HC, not another washed up military guy or SLC great.
3. Drop enrollment standards overall as much as possible.

They've got to pull alumni money away from lsu. We've got the same problem but not to the same extent - at the very least we have a number of big money Tech-only (I assume) donors. Do they at all?
Re: 2020-21 Coaching Carousel
Continuing the journey of FBS football for ULM is insane. Looking at their chances of ever winning conference championship, it will prob never going to happen unless they get serious at throwing tons of money at FB. I don't see them out recruiting Tech, ULL, Tulane.
Just looking in their division, everyone is spending more money than them. This year they got beat badly by everyone of these guys.
Group A
L 20-70 Lafayette
L 14-38 South Alabama
L 17-38 Texas State
L 15-48 Arkansas State

Pulling money away from lsu is impossible. It is impossible for us as well. We lost MILLIONS in giving during the last years of F.J and the entire term of Reneau by keeping too much focus on WBB instead of Football and MBB. Most of that time we ignored graduates who are now retiring with millions in their retirement accounts and allowed them to join the lsu bandwagon. nlulm to a much smaller scale, but once you lose them to lsu, you never get them back.

I think pulling money away from LSU is more possible now than it's ever been. Not easy, but LSU football is tanking like I haven't seen since Curly Hallman.

Gotta be timed right. We don't have much to offer to bring them back to a place they have not been since they graduated.

An area where we have dropped the ball for decades upon decades is alumni relations. It adds up and will continue to add up until we have Tech people (Tech grads with love for the school) in dedicated positions, working on this everyday. We have some positions on paper, and some jobs manned by student workers, but our efforts in maintaining positive alumni relationships is bad.
The idea of being an alumnus for my generation and back is quite different than how todays students view the university system.

People like a winner and a (real) competitor. Not gonna happen with the current slate of coaches but hopefully we can start to right the ship gradually.

Bowl wins and winning seasons are great, but you have to have those signature wins that get you top25 recognition and national upsets. Imagine going to round 2 in the NCAA. Remember what going to the sweet 16 did for us? We allowed the coach to get hired away and hired a loser who destroyed the program. We kept the focus on WBB which NEVER made us any money.
Re: 2020-21 Coaching Carousel
I think our football fixes are pretty simple. If I were the czar of Tech football, I'd insist that Skip let his OC call the plays and hire a real special teams coach and let him do his job. We've had the athletes to deliver top 25 wins the whole time Skip has been here. I'm hopeful that the new AD can get some of this done. I feel certain he'll have some good ideas about the game day issues we've had for a while.
