As has been mentioned, we are a adjunct "junior college". The days of Student Athletes with kids coming in as freshmen and either red shirting or starting right away, are a thing of the recent past. Do we settle for that or has already been suggested, drop down to FCS level. During the Techsters game Saturday, Lyn Rollins was saying SMU raised 100 million dollars in a week, for their move to the ACC. I personally do not like this Brave New World. It is what it is.
I agree. The transfer portal and NIL have closed the door on schools like Tech from competing at the highest level. That's been by design, I believe, and is proving to be quite successful for the Haves. It was fun while it lasted (mostly) but I wouldn't have a problem Leading the charge back to FCS and showing the way for the others that are caught in this trap. $100M in a week to just move to the ACC??? Tech will never be able to keep up. It's time we face the music and admit it's time to pack our bags and go home. This new football world order is insane and doesn't include the Tech's of the world.
Re: Stuck with Cumbie for another year?
Wonder if ULM would copycat us if we moved back to FCS? Actually I’m not sure I even care anymore.
Re: Stuck with Cumbie for another year?
The best part of moving back down would be when our AD agrees to money games for $450k. Just to solidify that full affect of the fall.

Nonsense. Almost all of you are acting like G5 football is dead. It's not. Far from it. There are G5 schools that are prospering and having a great year in 2023, despite facing the exact same Transfer Portal and NIL challenges that LA Tech is facing. And you have to look no further than your own CUSA to see proof. For the love of God people, Liberty Univerty --somebody that didn't even play football until just the last few years-- is playing in a New Year's Day Bowl game, the Fiesta Bowl, against #8 Oregon. Do you think the Liberty leadership is considering a move down to FCS because of the transfer portal or NIL isues?
The difference in COACHING.
LA Tech does NOT need to move to FCS. That's just silly talk. Tech needs a new Football Coach and a new Athletic Director. That's it.

Coaching (or the lack of by Holtz and Cumbie) is a significant part of the issue. Pathetic athletic leadership by Gutless Guice and Boy Wonder and his successor Empty Suit Wood have been devastating.

Right. So, GET a NEW ONE!
People take this crap too personal. It's "Plug 'n Play" now. So, now it's time to find a new AD and a new coach, and plug 'em in.

I agree! I'm not ready to run up the white flag just yet. Let's actually get a good coach and a good AD and give it the "old college try." If we fail then, well...but let's try first.
Re: Stuck with Cumbie for another year?
I can’t imagine any one of us is serious about the idea of moving down. What do we have left without sarcasm at this point though? The portal has done one thing to make the end of the season interesting. How will the leftovers at Oregon fare against the leftovers at Liberty? Can the backups from Ohio State squash the backups from Mizzou?

We are ranked at the bottom in CUSA in spending for football and our Athletic Budget. What is the game plan for addressing that issue. We appear not able buy out Cumbie's contract, do not see any support for tacking on a athletic fee to gain more $$. So, please what should be done moving forward in the "Brave New World" that we are in. That in addition to no one is renewing their season tickets or continuing their support based on comments on this board. With the brain trust this board has, there is got to be a solution to keep going in G5 and going to the next level in it.

We need our engineers to design a machine that turns one dollar bills into twenty dollar bills.

Nope, we need to clean our athletic SG&A up reducing excess, duplicative headcount...and quit filling positions just because LSU or Texas Tech or Boise State added them to their department.

This goes for the university as a whole, as it does for most schools.
Re: Stuck with Cumbie for another year?
Have I said this………
I would feel better about being fully staffed at the south campus over more coaches.

What could all of these people possibly do? Whatever it is, we are not getting much ROI from some of them, maybe most of them. I am sure they aren't making much money but give me fewer people accomplishing more and making more money than 100 hangers on, trying to look busy while doing little to nothing to increase revenue, increase attendance, or student engagement.
Re: Stuck with Cumbie for another year?
Not much to hear here lately. I sure hope Cumbie has been attending every coaching clinic there is and I’m not talking about him helping instruct, I’m talking about him attending as a student to learn. The “off season” doesn’t mean you do nothing when you’re paid $1M a year.
