Re: South Endzone Complex Daily Progress Report
As an electrical engineer in consulting world, I can say a lot of architects and contractors are idiots. :)

I can say that a lot of Architects are not idiots.

Does anybody know, without asking me for a subscription fee, what exactly was/is the holdup? I thought I remember us actually announcing that we've raised enough money to get it started.
Re: South Endzone Complex Daily Progress Report
If they completely changed the design, I'd want to see exactly what it is they are now planning on building before I donated anything towards it. People want to see specifically where their money is going. I can imagine some of the initial big donors may be just a wee bit upset if they gave money thinking it was going towards the initial proposed facility, only to have all the plans changed on them.
Why haven't the new plans been made public?

That's easy. They don't want to start a email riot.

While touring the office I noticed a project that was obviously a version of a new field house in the south end zone of the Joe. I asked Mr. Brandon, assuming it was their failed attempt to receive the contract to the design bid, but he responded, "no, that's the new design." So I pressed for more information and he informed me that his office had been partnered with Populous design, the original design firm of the design that is currently visible on the Quest for Excellence web page, that was until recently. Populous's design is for a budget of roughly 30 million, which we did not meet, our current budget is roughly 14 million, so the design was scrapped. Mr. Brandon's office now holds the design contract to design, from scratch, the new south end zone facilities at the Joe. He informed me that they are basically starting over, back to the interviewing various coaches and managers to inform a building layout. His best guess is that it will be another 8 months or so before a design is sent out to bid. So construction may not start until December of 2013 or later... I was taken back to say the least, how have we been kept so in the dark? The administration has obviously known this was taking place, but chose not to inform the Tech community. I hate to be the one to bring this news to BBB, but I knew I had to share the information I had received.
On another hand though, Mr. Brandon told me that if Tech partnered with a construction company early on, it would make the design process easier, quicker, and easier to stay on budget, and he figures they can produce a design much quicker than the 8 month period he gave me in the other scenario. But take heart, the design he showed me, in my humble opinion, is better than that of the Populous design and looks nothing like Populous's original design, and it is being designed by a Tech Alum! But, in accordance with Mr. Brandon's request, I did not take a photo of the proposed design, so I apologize in advance for not having a photo to share.
Let's hope Tech does this right this time...

Yes, we were told that.

I agree with this.
FWIW, when I visited with Dr Guice on April 18th in Frisco, he told me he had just spent the day touring the new football stadium in nearby Allen, TX. I think he was looking for good ideas. He told me he was very impressed.
All this to say, I think the completion of these stadium upgrades are going to be very important to Dr Guice.

Word around the water cooler is the DR is not ready to release any power and is gonna hold out until the final day. Dr. Guice must be chomping at the bits to get that fat old ********* out of the way.

He won't give it up then either. The DR "think-tank" will continue to operate as Tech's shadow govt from July 1 right up until the day they put him in a box.

I first met Dr. Guice at RhinoDawg's tailgate in Houston last year. I talked with him again before the Spring game and again at Tech& TailsVI. He said one thing that convinced me he will get the South Endzone Complex finished. He said, "academics and athletics go hand in hand". He gets it!!!!
