In his position/authority as VP overseeing the certification process he possessed some unilateral power. Not the least of which was adhering to the wishes of 10 state legislatures asking for a delay so that they could investigate their results and all the voter fraud and irregularities that had occurred. A representative of each state is present and there to either signal thumbs up, we're good to go, OR! to ask for a delay or some other kind of ruling from the chair, the VP, who is president of the Senate. No, Pence did not have the power to set aside the election results on his own. But the certification process is NOT merely some ceremonial procedure. It is a Constitutional requirement whereby the Electoral College is verified and approved. There have been many challenges to the EC results throughout history. In the past some of the EC tallies have been changed during this process, although not enough to change the results of any POTUS election, that I am aware of. But the fact is, Pence shirked his Constitutional duty in carrying out the whole process.

For the record, I did not and do not advocate hanging Mike Pence. He has "hung" himself politically and is done. Well, maybe he's still popular enough in Indiana to win some kind of election...dog catcher. But nationally he is toast. I HOPE he runs in the 2024 GOP primaries and gets smoked!

Go back and read the constitution. Neither Congress or Pence had the right to do anything other than count electors. Anything else you heard is a lie.

We saw in 2017 the numerous challenges to the EC made and each time then VP and president of the Senate, Joe Biden, denying each motion. He had to deny each motion because in that process he, and he alone, held the authority. He could have just as easily granted the motions. It never progressed to the point of the other cases because Biden did not allow it to. And again, in 2021, Pence never even allowed the states to make the requests, citing the chaos of the January 6th mess.

So, what is the process to overturning/changing EC votes? Well, as it turns out it is pretty simple...but politically very complicated. In practice all it takes is a simple majority vote by BOTH houses of Congress. But, who is going to cast such an affirmative vote to change the results of another state's POTUS election? But what does the constitution say?

The only possible issue is if a state doesn’t send a slate of electors to count or sends two and they have to decide which to count. Otherwise, the constitution is crystal clear on the subject.

I know what the Constitution says. I am merely addressing the questions that have arisen here and especially on a couple of blogs I am on. I figured some here might appreciate an explanation of the controversy involving Pence's role in "what could have been done?" on Jan 6th. Some posters are seeking answers, the truth, so they can move on. My post has generated 40+ comments on one blog and lots of good discussion. Some of the most ardent Trumpsters have begun to take a step back from the cliff on the whole "hang Mike Pence" movement. They better understand now, Pence did not have the power to unilaterally flip the results of the election. Now, many are still upset he didn't call for a delay allowing those 10 states to conduct reviews of the election results and processes. BTW, news' sources reported, at that time, it was 5 states, but 5 others said they would join in the reviews of their own results if a delay was going to occur. Pence cited the unrest that day, the chaos, and upon a return to the chamber declared for the count to be made official.

It is water under the bridge now. But there is still lots of anger festering out there. Ignoring it, or worse, telling people that which they know to be factual is wrong only worsens the situation. Now, this all addresses Pence's role on Jan 6th, it does not speak to the "grand theft election" that occurred. Which, BTW, there is tons and tons and tons of evidence...yeah, a lot of it isolated incidents, some of it hearsay, some of it "evidence" recorded on someone's cell phone, and some of it outright PROOF of election shenanigans. It would be very helpful....very helpful...if some non-partisan team of investigators would look into the problem areas, like Detroit, Philly, Atlanta....BTW notice how you have heard nothing further on the Georgia senate race fraud by whatshisname...COVER UP! Otherwise, the anger will just fester and by the time 2022 rolls around or 2024, there will be literally millions ready to take matters into their own hands. It would be far better for a proper investigation, and for some heads to roll, to defuse this situation.

Some of the most ardent Trumpsters have begun to take a step back from the cliff on the whole "hang Mike Pence" movement. They better understand now, Pence did not have the power to unilaterally flip the results of the election. Now, many are still upset he didn't call for a delay allowing those 10 states to conduct reviews of the election results and processes. BTW, news' sources reported, at that time, it was 5 states, but 5 others said they would join in the reviews of their own results if a delay was going to occur. Pence cited the unrest that day, the chaos, and upon a return to the chamber declared for the count to be made official.

It is water under the bridge now. But there is still lots of anger festering out there. Ignoring it, or worse, telling people that which they know to be factual is wrong only worsens the situation. Now, this all addresses Pence's role on Jan 6th, it does not speak to the "grand theft election" that occurred. Which, BTW, there is tons and tons and tons of evidence...yeah, a lot of it isolated incidents, some of it hearsay, some of it "evidence" recorded on someone's cell phone, and some of it outright PROOF of election shenanigans. It would be very helpful....very helpful...if some non-partisan team of investigators would look into the problem areas, like Detroit, Philly, Atlanta....BTW notice how you have heard nothing further on the Georgia senate race fraud by whatshisname...COVER UP! Otherwise, the anger will just fester and by the time 2022 rolls around or 2024, there will be literally millions ready to take matters into their own hands. It would be far better for a proper investigation, and for some heads to roll, to defuse this situation.

I'm just a lone voice in the wilderness proclaiming it would be better for all of us, for the country, if something was done soon.

What has happened is that some Republicans have sold out entirely on the principle of honesty to protect themselves from a Trump base that has been misled and is not interested in knowing the actual truth - the Trumpists just want to worship at the cult of personality of Trump. I assume you are suggesting that this is why the Judicial branch was created. If so, they wouldn’t take this case anyway - it isn’t justiciable. Besides the judicial branch wasn’t created to resolve issues of constitutionality. The constitution doesn’t say boo about the power of judicial review. The courts self anointed themselves that power in Marbury. You can read about the powers of the Supreme Court if you really want to know why they were created.

All branches have a duty to follow the constitution - not to test it. That is the oath of office they take. Some Republicans that know better violated their duty in voting against certification.

Facebook ‘Supreme Court’ Upholds the Blacklisting of Donald Trump

Facebook’s “Supreme Court” has upheld Mark Zuckerberg’s blacklisting of former President Donald Trump’s accounts temporarily, giving Facebook another six months to announce whether it will be lifting the suspension or deleting Trump’s pages.

The Daily Mail reports that Facebook’s oversight board, commonly known as the “Supreme Court,” has voted to temporarily uphold the ban on former President Trump’s accounts on the platform. The board has reportedly told Facebook that it has six months to announce an end date to the former President’s suspension or permanently delete his pages.

The board announced its decision today, almost exactly four months since the Capitol riots which resulted in Trump’s suspension as the Masters of the Universe accused him of encouraging the riots. The board stated in its announcement that it was upholding the suspension but also criticized Facebook for violating its own rules by not providing Trump with an end date for the suspension as it does for its other users.

The board stated that Facebook cannot “make up the rules as it goes along,” by banning some users for a set amount of time and others indefinitely. The board stated:

The Board has upheld Facebook’s decision on January 7, 2021, to restrict then-President Donald Trump’s access to posting content on his Facebook page and Instagram account.

However, it was not appropriate for Facebook to impose the indeterminate and standardless penalty of indefinite suspension.

Facebook’s normal penalties include removing the violating content, imposing a time-bound period of suspension, or permanently disabling the page and account.

The Board insists that Facebook review this matter to determine and justify a proportionate response that is consistent with the rules that are applied to other users of its platform. Facebook must complete its review of this matter within six months of the date of this decision.

The Board also made policy recommendations for Facebook to implement in developing clear, necessary, and proportionate policies that promote public safety and respect freedom of expression.

The suspension of former President Trump was the first time that Facebook had ever blocked a world leader from using its platform. Trump was also banned from Twitter during the week of the Capitol riots. Trump has not yet stated whether he wants to return to either platform.

They said he asked Kemp to find just votes for him....he didn't. Wouldn't know that if the entire recorded conversation hadn't been found.

They said Hunter's laptop wasn't really his and just Russian disinformation....it wasn't. Trump told us that.

They said he was crazy for thinking the CIA had spied on his campaign and administration. Well, he wasn't and they did.

He said there was evidence the Wuhan virus came from that lab in China. Looks like it is going in that direction.

He said we could create a vaccine in less than a year and we did, even while the media told us it would take much, much longer.

They said Russia offered money to anyone killing US troops in Afghanistan and he did nothing about it. Well, they didn't, and the confidence in that intelligence was so low they didn't even share it with him.

Seems like someone becomes more credible every passing day, and it's not the media or the current occupant of the office.

The ops commander saw Barr coming out of the White House, according to the report. He went over to Barr and told him the area was unsafe. Barr responded by asking why people were still on H Street outside the White House and that he thought it would be cleared by now.

"The USPP operations commander said the Attorney General asked him, 'Are these people still going to be here when POTUS [President of the United States] comes out?' The USPP operations commander told us he had not known until then that the President would be coming out of the White House and into Lafayette Park.

So Trump wanted the area cleared early, Barr communicated this request. The park police independently decided to clear the area early.

You are right, this has lots of parallels to Russia. Trump wanted it and asked for it and what he asked for was carried out as requested, there was just no coordination or chain of command.

Btw, we all witnessed this interaction between Barr and the ops commander before the police made their move, which is why everyone believed the before-curfew move was orchestrated by the Trump admin. Certainly appears that way, and Trump liked that appearance, else he could have called off or delayed the PR stunt with the upside down Bible.

In business, we call this “influencing without authority”. It is a great way to get things done without risking responsibility or accountability. But easy to claim credit.

Earlier in the week, White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany told reporters it was Barr who made the decision to push back the security perimeter outside the White House on Monday morning. McEnany said that when Barr arrived at Lafayette Park later that day to survey the security situation, he was surprised to see that action had not yet been taken.

“So he said that we needed to get going with moving that perimeter. He told the officers that out there,” McEnany said Wednesday.

Trump wanted to take credit for it.

There is a reason people believed that Trump ordered the early enforcement of the curfew for a photo op.

Barr requested it and then Trump sent his minions out there to reinforce the message that Barr ordered it.

The 2022 Mid-terms...

Primaries are taking place across the country and in recent GOP races Trump's endorsed candidates are 1 and 1, lost in Texas, won in Ohio. MSNBC made a big deal of "Trump's loss" in Texas the other day, nothing so far on "his win" in Ohio. I placed those in quotes because are these congressional primaries really about Trump, or are they more to do with the individual candidates? These are GOP primaries, GOP vs. GOP candidates. All politics is local, they say. That said, I do think someone like Trump, a dynamic but polarizing personality, can have (will have) influence on some of the races, given all else being equal. In other words, in those districts were GOP voters are truly undecided and could support either (any) candidate, who Trump endorses could sway the vote, one way or the other. But in most of the races it will be the quality of the individual candidates themselves who will influence the results.

Of course the national lib media wants to make this about Trump...since they are terrified of him and his pro-American policies. They want (hope) to discredit him and end his influence on national politics. There are some (many?) on the right that want to see that happen too...those RINO Swampers.

Personally, I don't think Trump wields as much influence on voters as some believe. I refused to vote for him the first go around because of his personality. The second time, once I saw what he was doing FOR America, I stood in line for almost two hours wearing a mask to cast my vote for him and for the USA. I know it's hard to believe I had to wait in that kind of line without being some sort of disenfranchised minority, but it happens to us melanin-deficient folks as well. Nobody offered me water or food either!

The only people for whom this is all about Trump are the lefties who are Godless and look upon the government as the supreme being. The rest of us are a little better grounded than they are.
