Today (May 25) birthday girl is former Lady Techster Raquel Spurlock, who played from 1992-96, got us to final fours and title games (the last fraction-of-a-second blown-ref-call loss to Carolina). Raquel was from Donaldsonville and is now a athletic administrator in the Dallas school system. She could run the court and defend like Michael Kyser, was a great Lady Techster, and is still looking good!!

This date in history in 1961 President John F. Kennedy set the goal of landing a man on the moon in the decade. And Mohammed Ali knocked out Sonny Liston in the first round of their rematch in 1965.

15 Interesting Facts about Dreams
1. You Forget 90% of Your Dreams - Within 5 minutes of waking half of your dream is forgotten. Within 10, 90% is gone.
2. Blind People also Dream - People who became blind after birth can see images in their dreams. People who are born blind do not see any images, but have dreams equally vivid involving their other senses of sound, smell, touch and emotion.
3. Everybody Dreams - Every human being dreams (except in cases of extreme psychological disorder). If you think you are not dreaming – you just forget your dreams.
4. In Our Dreams We Only See Faces That We already Know - Our mind is not inventing faces – in our dreams we see real faces of real people that we have seen during our life but may not know or remember. We have all seen hundreds of thousands of faces throughout our lives, so we have an endless supply of characters for our brain to utilize during our dreams.
5. Not Everybody Dreams in Color - A full 12% of sighted people dream exclusively in black and white. The remaining number dream in full color. Studies from 1915 through to the 1950s maintained that the majority of dreams were in black and white, but these results began to change in the 1960s. Today only 4.4% of the dreams of under-25 year-olds are in black and white. Recent research has suggested that those changing results may be linked to the switch from black-and-white film and TV to color media.
6. Dreams are Symbolic - If you dream about some particular subject it is not often that the dream is about that. Dreams speak in a deeply symbolic language. Whatever symbol your dream picks on it is most unlikely to be a symbol for itself.
7. Emotions - The most common emotion experienced in dreams is anxiety. Negative emotions are more common than positive ones.
8. You can have four to seven dreams in one night - On average you can dream anywhere from one or two hours every night.
9. Animals Dream Too - Studies have been done on many different animals, and they all show the same brain waves during dreaming sleep as humans. Watch a dog sleeping sometime. The paws move like they are running and they make yipping sounds as if they are chasing something in a dream.
10. Body Paralysis - Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is a normal stage of sleep characterized by rapid movements of the eyes. REM sleep in adult humans typically occupies 20-25% of total sleep, about 90-120 minutes of a night’s sleep.
During REM sleep the body is paralyzed by a mechanism in the brain in order to prevent the movements which occur in the dream from causing the physical body to move. However, it is possible for this mechanism to be triggered before, during, or after normal sleep while the brain awakens.
11. Dream Incorporation - Our mind interprets the external stimuli that our senses are bombarded with when we are asleep and make them a part of our dreams. This means that sometimes in our dreams we hear a sound from reality and incorporate it in a way. For example you may be dreaming that you are in a concert while your brother is playing a guitar during your sleep.
12. Men and Women Dream Differently - Men tend to dream more about other men. Around 70% of the characters in a man’s dream are other men. On the other hand, a woman’s dream contains almost an equal number of men and women. Aside from that, men generally have more aggressive emotions in their dreams than the female lot.
13. Precognitive Dreams - Results of several surveys across large population sets indicate that between 18% and 38% of people have experienced at least one precognitive dream and 70% have experienced déjà vu. The percentage of persons that believe precognitive dreaming is possible is even higher – ranging from 63% to 98%.
*Precognition, also called future sight, refers to perception that involves the acquisition of future information that cannot be deduced from presently available and normally acquired sense-based information.
14. If you are snoring, then you cannot be dreaming - This fact is repeated all over the Internet, but be a bit suspicious whether it’s really true as there haven’t been found any scientific evidence to support it.
15.You can experience an orgasm in your dream - You can not only have sex as pleasurable as in your real life while dreaming, but also experience an orgasm as strong as a real one without any wet results. The sensations felt while lucid dreaming (touch, pleasure and etc..) can be as pleasurable and strong (or I believe even stronger) as the sensations experienced in the real world.

Re: If you want a thread to die
Do be very detailed when you describe your dream to her. Tell her you were walking in a giant field of spring flowers. (Women usually like flowers.) Tell her you picked a flower and put in her hair by her ear. Then....keep on telling her the story....you walked hand and hand....dirt was so soft...it was like walking on a cloud....etc., etc.

Ten Things That Will Disappear In Your Lifetime....true???? Any comments??
This is USA oriented, but Canada & the rest will not be far behind..Whether these changes are good or bad depends in part on how we adapt to them. But, ready or not, here they come.
1. The Post Office
Get ready to imagine a world without the post office. They are so deeply in financial trouble that there is probably no way to sustain it long term. Email, Fed Ex, and UPS have just about wiped out the minimum revenue needed to keep the post office alive. Most of your mail every day is junk mail and bills.
2. The Check
Britain is already laying the groundwork to do away with check by 2018. It costs the financial system billions of dollars a year to process checks. Plastic cards and online transactions will lead to the eventual demise of the check. This plays right into the death of the post office. If you never paid your bills by mail and never received them by mail, the post office would absolutely go out of business.
3. The Newspaper
The younger generation simply doesn't read the newspaper. They certainly don't subscribe to a daily delivered print edition. That may go the way of the milkman and the laundry man. As for reading the paper online, get ready to pay for it. The rise in mobile Internet devices and e-readers has caused all the newspaper and magazine publishers to form an alliance. They have met with Apple, Amazon, and the major cell phone companies to develop a model for paid subscription services.
4. The Book
You say you will never give up the physical book that you hold in your hand and turn the literal pages I said the same thing about downloading music from iTunes. I wanted my hard copy CD. But I quickly changed my mind when I discovered that I could get albums for half the price without ever leaving home to get the latest music. The same thing will happen with books. You can browse a bookstore online and even read a preview chapter before you buy. And the price is less than half that of a real book. And think of the convenience! Once you start flicking your fingers on the screen instead of the book, you find that you are lost in the story, can't wait to see what happens next, and you forget that you're holding a gadget instead of a book.
5. The Land Line Telephone
Unless you have a large family and make a lot of local calls, you don't need it anymore. Most people keep it simply because they've always had it. But you are paying double charges for that extra service. All the cell phone companies will let you call customers using the same cell provider for no charge against your minutes.
6. Music
This is one of the saddest parts of the change story. The music industry is dying a slow death. Not just because of illegal downloading. It's the lack of innovative new music being given a chance to get to the people who would like to hear it. Greed and corruption is the problem. The record labels and the radio conglomerates are simply self-destructing. Over 40% of the music purchased today is "catalogue items," meaning traditional music that the public is familiar with. Older established artists. This is also true on the live concert circuit. To explore this fascinating and disturbing topic further, check out the book, "Appetite for Self-Destruction" by Steve Knopper, and the video documentary, "Before the Music Dies."
7. Television Revenues
To the networks are down dramatically. Not just because of the economy. People are watching TV and movies streamed from their computers. And they're playing games and doing lots of other things that take up the time that used to be spent watching TV. Prime time shows have degenerated down to lower than the lowest common denominator. Cable rates are skyrocketing and commercials run about every 4 minutes and 30 seconds. I say good riddance to most of it. It's time for the cable companies to be put out of our misery. Let the people choose what they want to watch online and through Netflix.
8. The "Things" That You Own
Many of the very possessions that we used to own are still in our lives, but we may not actually own them in the future. They may simply reside in "the cloud." Today your computer has a hard drive and you store your pictures, music, movies, and documents. Your software is on a CD or DVD, and you can always re-install it if need be. But all of that is changing. Apple, Microsoft, and Google are all finishing up their latest "cloud services." That means that when you turn on a computer, the Internet will be built into the operating system. So, Windows, Google, and the Mac OS will be tied straight into the Internet. If you click an icon, it will open something in the Internet cloud. If you save something, it will be saved to the cloud. And you may pay a monthly subscription fee to the cloud provider. In this virtual world, you can access your music or your books, or your whatever from any laptop or handheld device. That's the good news. But, will you actually own any of this "stuff" or will it all be able to disappear at any moment in a big "Poof?" Will most of the things in our lives be disposable and whimsical? It makes you want to run to the closet and pull out that photo album, grab a book from the shelf, or open up a CD case and pull out the insert.
9. Joined Handwriting (Cursive Writing)
Already gone in some schools who no longer teach "joined handwriting" because nearly everything is done now on computers or keyboards of some type (pun not intended)
10. Privacy
If there ever was a concept that we can look back on nostalgically, it would be privacy. That's gone. It's been gone for a long time anyway.. There are cameras on the street, in most of the buildings, and even built into your computer and cell phone. But you can be sure that 24/7, "They" know who you are and where you are, right down to the GPS coordinates, and the Google Street View. If you buy something, your habit is put into a zillion profiles, and your ads will change to reflect those habits.. "They" will try to get you to buy something else. Again and again.
All we will have left that can't be changed are "Memories".

Every one of those points is a problem for me. I still write checks to pay my bills, I have never owned a cell phone, I cling to my old microsoft office programs, etc. One of the reasons is my privacy which I see as almost gone already.

Unfortunately WWDog and 70, we as a world are already there. I only write a check for some of my daughter’s school and dance stuff and my tithe. But even my church is really trying to urge all of it’s members to go the electronic means via online. But as for my bills, I haven’t written a check in 8-years.
Privacy…WW it has been gone for some time now. Unless you do a total disconnect of life and become a hermit by moving to some remote island relegating yourself to the basic provisions for survival, privacy as you know it is going the way of the record player and 8-track tape!

Re: If you want a thread to die
Here is a link that I got from a fellow military retiree that I used to fly with on active duty. I consider this guy one of our heroes as he spent some time in the Hanoi Hilton. The message is most appropriate today. If you are left leaning, you might not like the message. If you are right leaning, you might not like the message but will probably agree with it. In either case you might come away with a whole new perspective on the USA and why we are where we are today and see another thing that has disappeared from our lives.

Re: If you want a thread to die
WW I spent 24 years on active duty flying several types of aircraft and spent quite some time in several countries in various capacities during that period of time. I wholeheartedly agree with everything Mr Prager says in the video! Over the years I have met several people with whom I still keep in touch with. One in particular a German who is married to an American retired GI friend has since moved to the states and is working to become an American citizen. She feels that since Germany has adopted the Euro and replacing the deutsche mark to be in compliance with the EU, Germans have lost their identity. Even though the Brits are a part of the EU, they refuse to adopt the Euro as their national currency and would rather hang on to the pound because they know that by doing so will keep their unity and identity intact.

Re: If you want a thread to die
I had to go to the office this afternoon to check when I had an appointment tomorrow morning that was on my office calendar and get some work done that I neglected. Hadn’t had breakfast or lunch so I decided to stop off at one of the Taco Buenos here in Abilene on my way to work. I pulled in and saw this pretty big guy wearing a La TECH t-shirt and shorts. I climbed out of my truck and walking up to the door when he met me half way in the parking lot and he said…”did you go to TECH?”…I have a “La TECH Alumni” sticker plastered on my truck’s rear window. I replied, “Yes I did and you are that kid that went to Abilene Cooper aren’t you.” “yes sir!” was his reply!
Darrel Brown (one of the OL) introduced himself and we talked a bit about TECH football, school and such. What a nice young man. Nothing but yes sir, no sir and just a good polite young man. In any case it was a very enjoyable conversation we had and he told me to remember number 75. I told him I definitley will and “I hope you’ll be the next Willie Roaf.” He said…”No Way!” I asked him if I could get a picture with him and he said don’t get too close cause I’ve been working out and I’m kinda sweaty. A little sweat ain’t going to hurt me. What a great young man!

Re: If you want a thread to die
USE THE "CLEAR" BUTTON
Using the "clear" button
Using credit/debit card?
Read this note very carefully.
I did not know about the clear button, but I will be pushing the clear button before I swipe my gas or debit card and after just to be safe.
People are getting really desperate due to the constantly rising gas prices.
A friend just told me about something that happened to one of his co-workers.
She used her credit/debit card to purchase gas at the pump (like most of us do). She received her receipt like normal.
However, when she checked her statement, there were 2 $50.00 charges added in addition to her purchase. Upon investigation, she found out that because she did not press the 'clear' button on the pump, the employee inside the store was able to use her card to purchase his/her own gas!
To keep this from happening, after you get your receipt, you must press the 'CLEAR' button or your information will be stored until the next customer inserts their card.
Be sure to tell all your friends/family so that this doesn't happen to them. I had never noticed the clear button but I got gas the other day and sure enough it is there. I shall be using it from now on.

Don't know, since I don't smoke. :)

Re: If you want a thread to die
Okay, just googled cellophane. It is still used (especially for cigarette packaging) but also for food packaging. While the process for making it is messy (as in all cellulose/paper products) it is totally biodegradable as opposed to a lot of plastic.

Re: If you want a thread to die
On this date in history, May 29:
Abraham Lincoln in 1849 gave us powerful words: "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time." Our current president is trying to disprove the last part of this quote.:bomb:
Patrick Henry in 1765 gave his famous Stamp Act speech, a moving, powerful, patriotic speech on behalf of liberty. Today we have Harry Reid.:dunce:
And in 1953 Mount Everest was first summitted by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary.

Re: If you want a thread to die
May 30's birthday boy has made more than a fistfull of dollars in his acting career. His films have run the gamut from the good, to the bad, and the ugly. He can party and has been referrd to as "rowdy" at times, but he's never unforgiven, even if he decides to paint the town red. He's been a true magnum force in Hollywood. He'd probably ask our Cajun troll "Do you feel lucky, PUNK!!:D) Happy 84th!!

Those girls on BTE II are pretty, but what are your chances of meeting one of them and bedding her down??? Your chances are about as good as a popcorn fart in a whirlwind!!:D

Re: If you want a thread to die
You can look at those old pics all you want, Markay. Those girls were drawn by an artist or they are over 80 years old now!
