Re: New Sponsor for Independence Bowl?
I was just looking at the state audits and ULL is to be commended for the growth. The money is starting to role in down there. Here's a look at the past 5 years of Tech / ULL combined ticket sales and contributions:
2010
Tech: 4.4 million
ULL: 2.6 million
2011
Tech: 3.1 million
ULL: 3.3 million
2012
Tech: 4.6 million
ULL: 6.3 million
2013
Tech: 5.3 million
ULL: 6.2 million
2014
Tech: 5.1 million
ULL: 10.1 million
Both schools were having success at this time (with the exception of Tech's 2013 football team). geauxpnc, what is happening down in Lafayette? Is your AD just this good at generating revenue? Where is that 2014 money coming from?

Good job, 84. Roy Lang must've been reading BB&B for story ideas. ;)

No mention of the huge white elephant in the room, no public acknowledgement of their snub of Tech. Tech IS the institutional advantage!!! Invite Tech instead of Ohio and there is no money issue. Idiots.
Soooo glad we're in a conference where we don't need those ass-hats anymore. Onward and upward, we've passed the Idiot Bowl by.
Maybe we need to fill Lemonis's inbox with our ideas via email....

I don't think that's what it is. Tech has been more successful than ULL in the 2 primary sports (football and men's basketball) over the past 5 years, but we haven't seen much increase in our contributions and ticket sales. I don't think baseball and softball can generate that kind of interest in a program (could be wrong though... maybe Lafayette loves their diamond sports). There must have been some kind of fundraising campaign or something going on last year? Is there an article about what happened in 2014?
Re: New Sponsor for Independence Bowl?
Fair enough. All I could find was this: "We've grown our total budget by external means,'' Farmer said. "By ticket sales, by donations, by corporate sales. We've worked hard to use our greatest asset, and our greatest asset is our fans. They buy tickets. They buy corporate sponsorships. They donate." (which supports what you are saying).
We do have some work to do in our fundraising to keep pace with ULL.

True, but you haven't had to deal with losing a good coach yet. Believe me, the hard part is consistency. We have a lot of football fans in North Louisiana, but we haven't been consistent enough to become a viable alternative for LSU fans up here. That's our dilemma. It sounds like ULL is winning over some of the Lafayette LSU fans. But will it last?

Yes, agree that consistency is the key. But we now have the necessary money, support and commitment to replace HUD once he leaves with someone of equal or better talent. But FYI: although he has done a tremendous job so far, he will not leave without taking us to the next level....he can't afford to professionally, and I truly believe it's in his nature as well. Besides, they love living in Lafayette (but then again who doesn't?), with that salary and fan support helps too. Also, we are in the process of finishing phase 1 of our facility upgrade, and about to embark on phase 2, so a most emphatic 'yes' on the issue on whether it will last. Finally, a most emphatic yes on the fact that we are steadily winning over fans from that 'other' school...a very daunting task indeed, but it helps that we are now at least giving them a reason to do so, :-)
Re: New Sponsor for Independence Bowl?
As a Tech and Ulm season ticket holder we have to admit that I am an idiot.

Re: New Sponsor for Independence Bowl?
why do uu have to be an ass and change things you do not agree with...I choose to support basketball mainly at both schools and spend good money on it...Went to both schools to get three degrees....everyone should have a voice...

Being in denial is how you get passed up and fall behind. The more we deny that ULL is moving in on us, maybe even surpassing is financially the easier it is for them to get an edge. We can treat them like unworthy trailer trash if we wish, they'll be fundraising trying to be #2 in the state. For some reason we think that title should just be handed to us..we haven't earned it.

Which of our posters are denying that LaLaff is ahead of us in fund raising? They should be. They have much more to draw from and have been consistent winners for a longer period of time. Nobody is denial about that.
We will continue to beat them in the only sport that matters on the field. Hopefully our leadership will take advantage of the situation and we can continue to slap them around on this message board.
BTW, look at our endzone facility and compare it to their project. Who is ahead?
Re: New Sponsor for Independence Bowl?
I've taken notice of the strides they've made. The population boom combined with the oil/gas expansion has certainly impacted the program. Much of the community and retail stores seem to be joining in the momentum, and there's a degree of ownership by the locals (more of them are identifying with ULL even though LSU is still more fashionable--similar to Tech and north La). Yet most of them are football ignorant. They actually believe that Hud is a good coach. Not realizing he's basically topped out and thinking he has another level will keep them at bay. But we're going to have to out-think them (not too hard) because they have many more natural advantages than we do.
