For anyone who is interested, here are the contracts approved for Holtz, Konkol, and assistant football coaches at the Board of Supervisors - University of Louisiana System meeting from September 2020.

I’ve been out of the loop for a little bit, but I’m sure some of you could use a punching bag: what is this board’s obsession with Tim Rattay being a head coach besides being a great Tech QB?

I would look for any little thing that might qualify as a “termination for cause” under 14.1.1 with the intent of getting Holtz to settle for a lesser amount.

Like not making a reasonable effort to recruit HS players as evidenced by bringing in 19 transfers, which is not in the long term best interest of the university and not having his team prepared to play. Any little thing to make him defend his right to full payment.

Holtz will get the full payment. The belief that most fans have that La Tech can’t afford the buyout it is laughable. For an engineering school we have a lot of alumni that aren’t good at math.

Would love to see us save that $3M, But.....

We are searching for a new head coach at the moment and Louisiana TECH nit-picking over $3M right now probably does not present the best picture to future coaching hires. Yeah I said nit-picking over $3M, that is huge amount to us, but chump change in the FBS coaching world. Again, I would love to not have to pay that out, just do not think it is wise in the big picture.

It’s not about being able to afford it. It’s about making Holtz uncomfortable and challenging his right to a full pay out. Hell, he didn’t even earn his salary this year.

He didn't live up to them from the beginning, remember the kind of offense he was supposed to run?

I just think any possible hires will think that is rather petty of us to try and not pay the money. I do hope that we learned from those mistakes and tailor future contracts to be more of a two way street though. It is another bought lesson, learn from it and move on.

Because we expect our coaches to do their jobs? That’s bush league? It actually reflects on our ADs and Presidents making the bad hires. Fans expect and deserve wins.
