Good way to try to pimp your website. Good luck with your crusade. Again, I'm not a name freak, so if you are trying to bother me, its not gonna happen.

You might note that that was SCBRONCS's very first post!
Nice post for number 1!

While true last year, there is no such thing as Tier 3 and Tier 4 anymore. Last year's Tier 3 is this year's Tier 1. Tech has been teetering back and forth between the 3rd and 4th quartile over the past few years. LSU is teetering back and forth between the 2nd and 3rd quartile. A&M and UT are around the 25%tile. ULL has always been in the 4th quartile.
Re: Alsander to USL...nope, now LaTech
All of this back and forth name stuff is immaterial. "They're better, we're better" is infantile as well.
Our energies must turn to filling seats in the house for football and basketball, a viable and competitive conference, financial support (academically and athletically) and making sure our corner of the state is taken care of in the legislature. All else, including whatever UL-whatever is doing is hogwash.
Let's get over it, take care of #1 and keep moving ahead. :)

You go that right.
Re: Alsander to USL...nope, now LaTech
Back to the topic, Scout has joined Rivals as reporting that Alsander is a LaTech commitment. We will see what happens Feb 2.

I think that he is yours. I'm pretty sure our coaches after the recent change and commitment have gotten another commitment since then.
Congrats. I'm sure he is a good kid, who agonized over the decision.

I don't really have a dog in the hunt and to me it seems inarguable that La Tech is better academically, however, from the scathing comments you guys make I expected there to be some sort of gaping chasm between the two schools across the board in every category. You guys make it sound like ULL doesn't even belong in the same sentance as La Tech academically, but those statistics don't seem to bear that out. Again, Tech is clearly better, but not by the margin I would expect from the way you guys talk.

The issue is that the ULL presents it as a major chasm in ULL's favor, and that's completely assanine. To listen to a ULL fan (in general) compare the two schools, you would think ULL is Texas and Tech is UT Arlington. It is truly ridiculous.
Louisiana Tech is the better school, the gap isn't that wide, and there are way too many 4 year schools in Louisiana. Those are the facts.
The fact-posting and neeny-nannaring on here is a direct result many ULL fans' ridiculous claims of academic dominance and flagship status.
Its crazy dealing with these guys and ULM sometimes. Like many have mentioned to you before (and you are a good poster), your school doesn't have a ULL/ULM problem. Until you do, you don't really understand where this all comes from. And we Tech fans apologies if residual hatred of the Sun Belt Conference comes out of that. But its a Lafayette and especially Monroe problem.
Re: Alsander to USL...nope, now LaTech
I don't think that we have ever wanted or argued (at least i haven't to be deemed the flagship of our system).
IMO, we are in the south, you guys are in the north. The two of us serve a little broader grouping of students than the other schools in our system.
I don't think us being called Louisiana would have any bearing on Tech, that is my personal opinion.
However, speaking of the chasm or gap talk. It is often said on here that Tech is superior by a wide margin in everything, and I don't believe that is the case.
My only dog in the hunt is that I think we should play every year. we have played football 84 times against one another, now we never do.

And I've acknowledged these facts before as well. There was a time when I came in here waving the Sun Belt banner high and proud, but I've come to realize that there is way more going on politically in Louisiana higher education than there is in Tennessee and there is far more bad blood in Louisiana higher education than there is in Tennessee and believe it or not there is a fair amount of politics and bad blood involved in Tennessee higher education. The amount of political clout that UTK has, is insane, they routinely block us from getting things that we need, often in favor or things that UTK probably doesn't even want, they just serve the purpose of keeping us from getting the funds.
When it comes to the innerworkings of La Tech and ULL/ULM I defer to your more intimate knowledge of the situation. Honestly, I do not accept either side as being solely correct, there are two sides to every story, both probably exaggerated(not necessarily equally so) and as a distant outsider, I'll never know the real story. There's no point defending them to you guys and there's no point placating them by telling them that they're right and you guys are jerks. I don't know the real story, so I just let you guys fight it out amongst yourselves.
Re: Alsander to USL...nope, now LaTech
Totally respect that, Slappy. ULL should 'flagship' higher learning in Acadiana, and Tech in the I-20 cooridor. That's the logical way to do things, but we all know why that won't happen.
I'm sorry, but no one is buying the branding of ULL as 'Louisiana' as purely an athletics concept. We've all read and seen this thing plotted from the beginning, and for years its been clear that the intention has been using the name change to enhance the image the university by instituting the false promotion of "The University of Louisiana" as this mythical land grant behemoth of a university. That's clear. Many ULL say all the right things -- 'oh, its just for sports' -- but that's not really the truth. Just read RP for a week.
Of course this argument has been going on for years and no one is ever going to 'win', and hey that's how two schools that have played 84 times should be to one another. But the Louisiana thing is just ridiculous. Lots of respect for ULL otherwise, but the name thing just leaves us scratching our heads. Should have never changed the name in the first place, if you ask me.
From my experience, ULL fans degrade Louisiana Tech and the city of Ruston much more frequently than the opposite. Tech fans hate ULM, and they hate Karl Benson. There's mild annoyance at ULL with the name thing. ULL fans hate them some Ruston and they really hate Derek Dooley.
Honestly the entire SBC's fascination with Tech is crazy and almost flattering as a fan. Look at simply the first pages of the SBC board, ULL board, ULM board, Arkie State board....so much Tech talk. Someone has to wear the black hat, but damn. Its almost obsessive.

Just take a look at ULL's Facebook page "The University of Louisiana" or The Daily Advertiser. It's more than just athletics, and ULL folks who deny it are not telling the truth.
