I think marriage and kids are the two biggest things that change these characteristics in people. I do think that college makes a big difference versus just graduating high school.
JUST MY OPINION -- we eliminated the draft during Viet Nam-- create a new generation of sMootherLove. 1t 18 you once either headed for college or 2 years of learning how to respect yourself, country, self reliance and values. It was replaced in many cases by gangbangers in poverty areas and for a short period of time disrespect for men/women willing to sacrifice for our country. Rambling of an old man--my dad did 2 tours Nam AND 2 tours Korea so I am seriously prejudiced towards Military but not the politicians who do not let them do their job. OK back to recruits.

So true!
Re: 2016 Football Commitments
I wonder how Shea Patterson is feeling about his commitment to Ole Miss now that the NCAA is investigating. For that matter, any of their recruits.

22.3 yards/catch, 10.8 sec 100 meters, honor student. That's enough to make me feel he'll fit in real well at Tech.
Re: 2016 Football Commitments
Glad he got a visit. Great prospect for a pref walk on. I understand why guys who don't meet the eye test don't get offered, but this one has heart and is a football player. Overall great athlete one of the fastest guys (not just fast white boy) in the state. Also starts on a pretty good WM basketball team. If he does not get a 'ship offer this year, he will earn one soon.
Re: 2016 Football Commitments
I say offer the kid. He can probably get other types of scholarships with his GPA, but don't let someone else take him at the last minute. No substitute for speed.
Re: 2016 Football Commitments
Question. Don't "other types of scholarships" count? If not, then that would be a large loop hole. It doesn't sound fair for a merit scholarship to count. But I am just asking.

A kid can walk on, have a full ride (in other areas), but not count against the football scholarship limit in the beginning. A coach can evaluate the kid via a roster spot and does not have to gamble a 'ship on a "tweener".

Correct. I'm pretty sure they can be on the team and on any scholarship... until he plays. Once he plays one down, the scholarship counts as a football 'ship against the 85 limit. So he can get TOPS plus other scholarship and be on the scout team.

I think you're equating growing up from your background. Some of these kids are forced to grow up because financially they are fending for themselves without any help from momma or daddy.
Re: 2016 Football Commitments
So if someone chooses to never get married or have kids, he did not grow up or become an adult? What a load of crap. Get off my lawn you stupid kids!!!
Re: 2016 Football Commitments
I took it to mean marriage and children are the two big events in life that change young people. Not that a person can't mature without those things. Obviously people do, but as it relates to the discussion things have changed in the past 50 years for various age groups. Add employment if you wish, but employment can change. Marriage and children never go away.

No, I'm not talking about football recruits or a certain demographic. While their are always exceptions, I'm talking about the generation as a whole. And, there is quite a bit of literature published on the subject.
