If you're going to be in that general area and want Mexican, go to Don Tomas on 6th in Monroe. Get the tongue tacos or the pork chile verde. Best tomatillo sauce I've had outside of south Texas.
Pueblo Viejo is really good also, although I haven't been there since their remodel a few weeks ago- heard a management and menu change accompanied the physical changes and that prices went up pretty considerably. I hope they kept the all day, every day 2-for-1 margaritas going.
El Sombrero is pretty good, if a little more Americanized since they first opened. Go there on non-peak hours too, unless noisy, birthday-party infested restaurants are your thing. Margaritas are extremely sour. Get the #55 if you want a taste of everything, just be sure to have someone to share it with. Huge portions.
For out of the area (Ruston area) has anyone been to El Bruno's in Cuba New Mexico? I got the impression it is kind of the Mexican equivalent of Does Eat Place because people from all over make it a point to stop there. Found that place by accident one time when I decided to go through Albuquerque instead of Santa Fe coming back from Colorado. Had some kind of stuffed Pablano pepper that was the best I've ever had.
In Ruston I know a few people that say they love the Mexican food trailer in the Backus parking lot.

Soon to be some kind of 'Nawlins style cafe/eatery. That Garden District Bar & Grill venture never took off- lack of advertising and a distinct concept hurt it really badly. Maybe being close to Taste of India and Nonna and having a defined concept will help stir up some lunch business.

I don't think it will. I don't expect Nonna to make it.

Long-term, I agree. It's still a novelty for a few northside Monroe circles, but that'll wear off eventually. Most see it as too expensive for what you get.

Count me as one of those. Tried it once for lunch. The menu was not priced. This ain't New Orleans. I got a salad. It was horrible and it cost me almost $10 with water.
I do hope the old Ernesto's location makes it.

Same here. I hope the new place actually announces the opening and tries to make use out of the patio space. Monroe could use another seafood place that relies more on creole/cajun recipes rather than just truckfulls of fried stuff. Nothing wrong with Catfish Charlie's and the like, but we have enough of that. It's easy to fry stuff. I'm hoping for something like Copelands, but without the perceived frills and pink lighting, lol.

I've always liked Waterfront and their menu. I like the "nothing fried" concept.

No, never eaten there. The last time I was in Nuevo Laredo, I stepped over a dead body on the street. Never been back.

La Fogata Mexican Grill in Arcadia rocks and had been packed everytime we've been in there

Cory's other place, Cotton, is thriving. Different food, but a similar upscale concept. Surely you have not forgotten there are enough pretentious folks in North Monroe to make something like that. And they love them some Cory Bahr! (actually, so do I)

My neighbor here in SA says the place is not there anymore. I don't know if it is truly not there or he just got lost after partaking of fermented cactus.

I would guess not. It depended a lot on the tourist trade and tha's gone away. The last time I was there was in 1973 passing through on a road trip to Acapulco. This was before all the other places like Puerta Villarta became famous. Did it in a Triumph Spitfire with by best friend now for over 40 years.
