99.9% chance that will not happen, I mean no disrespect but SU does not have the athletes to win this game. Much luck to the rest of your season. Just enjoy the half time show and safe trip back home to BR.

Dude. Stop...PLEASE...don't jinx us! We said the same things about UCA, Northwestern, Southeastern, and Grambling. We won 3 of those four, true enough, but if our guys think this is going to be a cakewalk...it will be a LONG night for us all. Our guys need to respect those Southern Jags like they would Alabama or Ohio State, and bring their A game. I promise you SU will bring theirs.

I know one thing, I would MUCH rather have a stadium full of SU fans than a stadium full of ULL fans. I made the trip to SU for the men's basketball game last year and lost count of the amount of SU fans that welcomed my wife and I to the campus and thanked us for coming. SU is a very classy school.

You SU guys posting in this thread will like this because it supports your statements of this being a sell out. A lady I work with attended Grambling and her mother is a Grambling alumni. She is thinking about getting some family/friends together to tailgate at this game. The thing is, we are in DALLAS. Her mother may live in Chicago - based on past talks about spending time in N. LA. She is already concerned about finding a hotel in at least Monroe.

You would think that the university would take the proper steps to ensure concessions are fully stocked with loads of extras. Sayng that, who would we email to bring this point to the front and make sure we are pushing the right buttons to ensure a decent gameday experience. At least never run out of ice or water!

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
I see all the evidence that Southern has traveled incredibly well (ULL, NSU). But I also saw on their website they led all HBU last season in attendance of only 15,000+ in their 28,000 seat stadium. so I am still not sure how to view their potential for travel to Ruston. it is almost like Southern fans attend road / neutral site games better than in their own stadium. it is peculiar.

It's a true statement that some of our fans only go to away games. For whatever reason, when Greg Lefleur was our AD he changed our tailgating policy and pissed off a lot of our fans. Weather it was moving folks tailgate spots, making really stupid tailgate rules or moving the time of our homegames. We sold 10,000 season tickets the year before he was hired. He managed to alienate a lot of our fans when he did a buy one get one free ticket sale after folks purchased their season tickets one year the week before our first home game. Our ticket sales were reduced significantly the next year.
For our level SU does great. SU finished in the top 5 in FCS in attendance and has led many years. SU has the 2nd highest ticket prices in the start behind LSU.

I agree that that scenario is somewhat peculiar. However, the justifucation is just as vlw has offered coupled with the fact that some of our fanbase was lost to Hurricane Katrina when the New Orleans area permanently lost more than 100,000 population. But since BR and southeast Louisiana are experiencing an industrial and population boom, SU numbers are starting to grow again. I expect that we will soon be back on top in all attendance categories. High intetest games such as Jackson State, Alcorn State, Alabama State, and Florida A & M, draw huge crowds, while other low interest contests may not be so well attended. This would explain why our AVERAGE attendance in 2014 was just under 17,000.

Yes, you would think that. We've been thinking about it since January, so it's natural to believe the people who get paid to think about it have been as well. Unfortunately, history doesn't support that thinking. I really hope we have our shit together this time, but I think there's a 50/50 chance of this being a giant Charlie Foxtrot.

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
Here's how simple this all is....
set up locations that sell just bottled water and bottled Pepsi. It takes only a table and some ice chests....ta dah! That way those seeking a cold drink don't have to fight the lines at the regular concession stands behind some kids buying nachos. Will speed up concessions for everyone, including those seeking the nachos.
Also, and here's the real secret, yo Tech officials, buy MORE bottled water and Pepsi than you think you will sell at the SU game. Yes, anticipate a HUGE crowd and HUGE sales and then add to that number. Just think....any bottled water or Pepsi not sold at the SU game will keep to the next home game. It won't go to waste!

I would bet that if you asked anyone at Tech about this they would say it is not up to them, but the contracted providers. They have paid Tech and so don't care. It appears Tech has no leverage with these people. Maybe outside the stadium, but just try to bring one bottle of water in. So get hydrated before you go in.

They HAVE actually done this. You're about 3 years late. If you're gonna talk concessions, make sure you're talking facts. They've improved through the past few years, but Aramark has so far to go to provide exemplar, timely service.

Have heard that a couple of come to Jesus meetings have been held between our admin and Aramark. It improved as basketball season went on last year. It should be better for football this year and it has gotten better over a couple of seasons. As stated, they have a long way to go to actually provide the service promised in the contract.

Oh, and my bag usually gets inspected after going through the gate. They have never said anything about my water. I also bring in 2 cowbells to ring. They only gave me a problem once about the bells! The deputy said that artificial noisemakers are not allowed. I told him they were NOT artificial....I had to chase that cow 1/4 mile to get those bells. After he finished laughing, he said have a good time!!

Some folks just giving you folks a hard time, but believe me we are excited to host Southern to Ruston.. and know that you all have shown that you are a Class Act time and time again, where ever you travel too!

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
Statboy, don't get your dander up too much. Most of everything in the sports sections of our board is wishful thinking, conjecture, or just razzing opposing fans and often each other. Don't take it to heart. We are all just ready for the oblong ball to take flight for the opening kickoff and get this preseason banter over with.
-
Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
Statboy, I'm looking forward to welcoming you and other SU fans to Ruston and to our stadium. It is our home and you will find that most of our fans will welcome your fans as guests in our house. However, after kickoff, it is game on. We hope to have a game where both teams give it their all and there are no injuries on either side. We hope you and your fans have a safe trip to and from Ruston.

I'm sure that you did. I'm even surer that when they said it, they had some type of relationship with the person it was directed to.

The only "royal ass whupping" will take place on the gridiron. It should be the Dawgs administering it.
Again, what are you talking about?

I am just looking forward to seeing the Southern band again. Used to go to those games when I could and been to several Bayou Classics in the Dome. Extremely entertaining and fun!
As for the game, we just need to play our game and not get taken off guard.

Well hopefully our coach come in with an actual game plan other than to collect a check. If we can get our running game going and control the ball I think there will be a few surprises.

We should have a very stout defense and I am thinking our offense should be improved from last year, actually. I don't expect we will be taken off guard by an FCS team again (hopefully, we learned our lesson). I expect Southern to give us a game, though. You will probably give us a better game than ULL did last year. I have nothing but respect for Southern, so I expect a good battle - the different divisions means nothing when we hit the field.
I am the true optimist that sees a chance for us to go undefeated this year and break into a major bowl, so I do expect us to win. I am a Tech fan, though. I would expect that many of your fans are thinking Southern has a chance to win it, as well. ;)

I concur, I'll hold my prediction on the score until after a week of practice So I can gauge just how much of an affect, not being able to participate in spring practice caused.

I have a hard time judging practice to game outcomes, anyway, though. Everything changes when the players are on the field. Plus, the level of competition has to be taken into account. Last year, I would never have predicted our defense to be so great from practice. Playing against yourself in practice is much different. I was thinking our offense was not that great. Turns out we had a productive offense and an awesome defense.
Of course, after a loss to an FCS team to start the year, I would not have guessed we would have gone on to win CUSA West and beat Illinois in the Heart of Texas Bowl.
Just tough to guess......... I do expect an outstanding year from us, though.

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
We ruled all of Texas that day! So, Champ, you got it right.
Ran into a former high school coach of Blake Martin this week (while vacating in Colorado). He asked where we were from, when I answered Louisiana, he commented, Oh, you must like LSU, then. Ah....no. I support Louisiana Tech. That's when he said he was at our bowl game and that he was a coach at Martin's HS. Went on to say how impressed he was with the Dawgs, our fans, the whole atmosphere. Had plenty of compliments, that one could take as back-handed negatives. Such as he was surprised by our attendance....heck! you guys greatly out-numbered the Illinois crowd. Y'all were VERY loud and into the game....just like big time schools are. I smiled and thanked him.
He asked about Martin's prospects of getting significant playing time this year. I shrugged, cuz I have no idea.

I have a new Board member from Austin and we met for coffee a couple of weeks ago to get some contracts signed. She said she loves Louisiana and, without me prompting, she asked "Are you are lsu or Louisiana Tech fan?" I told her Tech with a smile on my face. She is from Texas A&M and stated that she only knew the two schools in Louisiana, so figured we must hate each other like A&M and UT.

Just off the phone with Tech Tix Office. Tickets are selling very well. Young lady told me SU fans have been calling.....for months!
So, if you want to go to this game, don't procrastinate.
Okay, okay...yes, I did it. I bought West Side seats for this game. I admit it, okay.
So....sue me.

Can you confirm that calling has translated to buying. I have heard the former as well, but can't speak to the latter.

Nah.... we just like to call up ticket offices when we're bored.

How's the Tailgating setup? I'm coming down from Louisville and have several family members that are SU alumni and that are coming as well and I would like to know when/where/how to setup for a tailgate near the stadium. Thnx...

The implication was SU fans started calling when this game was confirmed as scheduled. Of course, a year ago, or whenever it was, there were no tix yet, so they were advised to call back when tix were available. Now, SU fans are buying tix at a rapid rate. This should be no surprise. As several of us have advocated for decades, if Tech was gonna schedule an in-state FCS opponent, it should be SU, first and foremost. The game WILL be a sell-out. So, Tech fans had better not wait too much longer to get tix.

Reminds me of an old Yogi-ism:
Yogi and his party goes to a restaurant for the first time and there is a long waiting list to be seated. Yogi tells one of his buddies "This place will never make it. There's too many people that eat here!"

Statboy, always another spot at my tailgate for a sharp witted foe! Going to be fun. We will probably start early Friday evening.

Thanks for the invite. If I'm not too tired, I'll see if I can take you up on it.

The designated tailgate areas on the blacktop are all reserved.
But free tailgating is available in the grassy areas around the adjacent TAC (basketball arena) on a first come first serve basis. Arrive at dawn, and you should have your pick.
(somebody correct me if that's wrong.)

Correct. Although I suggest everyone else arrive around 10 so I can be good and set up.

With the very real possibility of a sell out, does anyone know how the student admission being addressed? I'd hate to see students turned away because we sold too many tickects to visiting fans. Of course it would be equally as bad if we lost out on tickect revenue because we reserved a bunch of seats for students that don't show.

I've no doubt a last minute solution will be announced two days before.
Of course, as I've complained about elsewhere, the "Blue Crew" nonsense is going to throw a huge wrench into the works.

Back in the day, students would show up early and claim their seats. With this current generation, that is not the case.

Back in the day (pre JAS) you had to miss dinner to get yourself a seat for an 8:00 kickoff.

And you had to walk there barefoot in the snow?
Uphill both ways?

I get there an hour early. Probably will go even earlier for this game.

I like ya, Blue. But that's pitiful.
You're missing out on some outstanding tailgating.

So what's the in's and out for parking? (RV's, tailgating equipment, etc.) It would probably cut down on traffic jams if we had an idea on what to expect.

You misunderstand. My tailgate starts at 8 or earlier. I'm saying I get into the stadium an hour early.

It's a big difference between traffic jams that are created by folks not knowing where they are going and what to do than your normal traffic jams.
Trust me, the b majority of N.O. residents came here after Katrina.

Visiting fans typically tailgate in the parking lot by the softball field (West Alabama @ Tech Drive) or around the Lambright Intramural Center parking lots (access off of Tech Drive). You might check with the Southern University athletic department, as I would imagine they've spoken with our Athletic Department to secure a designated area for your Alumni events. I am almost positive they've set something up...we're expecting a huge crowd for the game, so it makes sense that Southern alumni and fans would have a designated area.

Re: Someone Has Finally Listened - Southern Univeristy Coming to Ruston in 2015
My daughter's mother-in-law(SU alumni) is wiring money for 32 tickets that she wants me to purchase for her. Maybe, just maybe, I wont forget to get them until it's too late.

How about RV's? Would that be a designated spot also?

The blue crew idea is in my opinion long overdue. I've been advocating for something similar to LTAC for students since I was a student. Don't let your personal bias against those who were in the unorganized versions of the Blue Crew that have existed make you jaded to this idea. Give it a shot!
We need students not just showing up, but buying in and this gives them a chance to be part of more than just having a Tech ID. Now will they execute it in a manner that promotes growth and shows advantages over just showing up as a regular student? Who knows.... But I applaud the idea.

Yes, those are also designated spots. If you contact the Tech Athletic Dept , they should be able to help you reserve one.
