The community transmission patient in California is in serious condition and on a breathing tube.
A patient that did not get the virus directly from China or another known patient. In other words, there is at least one more intermediate person that has the disease that we have yet to identify.
A second patient that acquired the disease from the community has been identified in another part of California.
This means that we most likely already hundreds of other people carrying C19 in the US that we don’t know about yet.
"Typhoid Mary" if you are familiar with that history.
Just read a report that says Covid-19 is not nearly as deadly, or potentially deadly, as SARS, EBOLA, or some of the other pandemics, but is more readily transferrable. So, it is possible (likely?) it will spread but most people, like 95% who contract it will get sick, but survive. Those at risk of death are the elderly and/or like this woman in California who had previous severe health issues.
Ebola and SARS were not ever pandemics.
The Spanish Flu and Black Plague were pandemics.
As an update, they have now 4 different Americans that got the disease via transmission. The 2 that were 90 miles apart in California, one in Oregon, and a high school student in Washington state.
The spread of Coronavirus is not a question of possibility. It became a certainty before last weekend when outbreaks were discovered in South Korea and Iran.
It is now in US communities and we will see an escalating number of cases here. We aren’t really testing for it en masse yet.
Meant “community transmission” - not just transmission

The kid went to school sick and they are quarantining only 5 other students that came into contact with him and his sister that goes to another school.
I know you are of the opinion that's it's too late and won't matter at this point, but I still believe -as I posted on 2/26 - that flights from countries like South Korea, Japan, and Italy should have been suspended beginning last weekend. The second case in Washington is of a woman who came in from Seoul.
First death in Washington state.
It MAY have slowed it getting here, but odds are it was already here by the time the outbreak was discovered in South Korea. We would have to essentially stop all freedom of movement if we really wanted to make a difference, because it is quickly going everywhere.
Chasing the outbreak in Washington state. 2 more positive tests and some firefighters in quarantine.

Based on genetic sequencing of the Washington state cases against the genetic sequences of other COVID-19 samples from around the world, it is probable that Washington State has had an outbreak going for up to 6 weeks.
