I don’t know what the solution is, but I don’t think it’s another athletic fee to the students. College costs enough as it is. I don’t see us nickel & diming our way out of our current funk.
I wonder if it’s time to consider high risk/high reward options for coaching staff to improve results? Hire a pariah (e.g. Art Briles, Mark Mangino, etc) that no one else will touch who can coach his ass off. Frame it as a “second chance”.

Have to have an admin that mingles with the students at events/sports. Engage them now so they will stay connected as an alum. Give them incentives to come to games and stay til the end. Our suits have to have the personality to learn everyone’s name and treat the $300/year donor like the $30,000/year donor without patronizing. Really get to know them. Invite them to elbow rubbing events. Turn them into $10,000/year donors and beyond.
How bad does it suck to go to a church where you are a number and no one really knows you? How much does it suck to work a job where no one can call you by name. Same thing applies to La Tech. You are either an in crowd or a nobody.

Bingo.
We aren’t doing the easy things right, much less the hard things. Tech is a relationship driven school. Our sell is a school where you aren’t a number, but a person. LSU is a numbers driven school, they sell the everything model. You can have it all!
So knowing this, why isn’t our school selling maximizing community every single way. The flag football program this year was a huge start and is doing well. The Tech EGames was another great idea and easy sell. I say more of this.

Which is sad, Tech and Ruston are both Malone, Davison, and Origin Bank by way of perception. Both are so much more than that if the other 25,000 people got a chance.

I totally agree. When do the other 25,000 people get a chance? When we can come up with enough money to balance the influence of the people you mentioned? It’s going to take a grassroots movement. Who’s in?

Re: Stress Free Saturdays
This is how TECH football has been going so far, this year: We get way behind at the beginning of the game.....Then, in the fourth quarter, it looks like we are coming back......We all get excited....maybe we are going to pull out a win.....then due to mistakes, stupid plays, penalties, and piss poor tackling....we lose the game in the last minutes!!! SOS every game!!!

To have their opinions heard and valued. But that will not happen because money, green spaces, and bike trails matter more than anything around here

Another drive by with blinders on above...
Bowling - NOBODY cares. It's actually embarrassing that we even acknowledge the sport that was only put in place to help out with Title IX.
Golf - I love the sport, but nobody really cares about college golf.
Baseball - We did not do good last year. If pitching does not improve we will get worse.
Many here could see this crap storm coming when our former AD began micro managing the Athletic Department and his boss looked away.
Having coaches hired away is a good problem.
The transfer portal and NIL can only be overcome with more money...BIG money. We'll never have it.
Re: Stress Free Saturdays
Stress Free Saturdays are about to return because there’s really not much hope that Tech football will perform any better in these last three weeks than they have since Cumbie took over. No matter how much time passes the repeating fundamental flaws of what this team is built around still exists. I think the only real question remaining is if Cumbie, his staff and the team can scratch out a win against winless Sam Houston St. That’s probably going to be Cumbie’s exclamation mark on his coaching career. It’ll be a lot like Holtz’s loss to NWSt… the beginning of the end for him. In Cumbie’s case however it’ll mark the point of no return.

I know, I like bowling. My bowling scores are about the same as my golf results, right around 100! :shocked2:

As a Tech fan, I've been embarrassed about the bowling thing since we did it just and only to help the Title IX situation. Then we joined the SWAC for bowling only. The whole thing was about NOT having a women's golf team instead. Word was that since the guys played at Squire, the women's golf team would have to have equal access to Squire (probably BS from you know who) Squire, understandably, could not do that.
THEN, our "promotion" peeps cram us full of bowling BS like it really matters. What's worse is that Title IX no longer matters, but the person who is in charge of that kind of thing needs a job, so she (oops) has to feel important. SHE is part of our problem and has been for years.
Re: Stress Free Saturdays
Women's golf would have only been added to comply with Title IX. Title IX lawsuits are still a very real thing, they just don't get the clicks other issues do now days. There was an access issue to having the two teams have separate home courses, a cost issue to squire creek about having 2x the people taking course time for practice etc, and a cost issue with golf v. bowling.
Now you are absolutely right that CUSA's womens golf is a better fit than SWAC bowling, and even in the absence of CUSA there are several conferences that would still have been better homes for golf than being in the SWAC for anything.
Now all of that is to say that money could have overcome all of those issues very easily, but we made the choice to go the cheapest/easy route like we always do.
Also, I am glad our ladies are successful, and they are here so go bowling, but if requires money we don't have it, and no one that knows how to actually raise it from (all) the alumni and/or community.
