Re: Tech Administration decides to send only 1/3 of the BOP to the Poinsettia Bowl
This wouldnt be a problem if we just got rid of our "middle of the mall" outdated and noncommital administration....just shown once again how much of a joke our admins are!
Re: Tech Administration decides to send only 1/3 of the BOP to the Poinsettia Bowl
I'm all for sending the band but here's my issue with the complaints. Was anyone on this board at the game on Saturday?
We had what could be argued as the biggest game in Joe Aillet Stadium history last Saturday and the band did not perform at halftime because they did not have enough members come back to Ruston from break. Why should we send an entire band when the whole band can't come to a home game? I say send only the kids that stood, cheered and danced in the rain Saturday to San Diego. And the same goes for the Regal Blues.
Just my two cents but to say the entire band "deserves" to go is quite an understatement.

Because of the way the quarter system works and the untimely date of the final home game, we were missing maybe 20-30 members for that day, but also because it was during a beak we could not schedule a practice for a halftime show. So we were allowed, by President Reneau, to just stay in the stand for half time

im sittin here trying to figure out how im goin to pay to go and i'm losing all motivation from this.

Your point? Did LSU allow 25% of their band to not show up because it was Thanksgiving break? What about Texas or Texas A&M who played on Thanksgiving night? A little line from a favorite movie of mine, "Rule No. 76: No excuses, play like a champion."

Exactly. Getting The Shreveport Times involved will have consequences. The media is not the answer to this problem. Please don't get them involved. Once it hits The Times, it could spread to numerous other news outlets and every college football blog in America. That would be very damaging to our reputation.

I'm sure, like us, they had repercussions for not showing up to the game. Ours was to lose some of our scholarship for not showing up.

I agree with that. The ones that were there did a fantastic job!

I also think since this is a sporting event that Robken should be subjected to the same standards as every other coach on campus besides Dykes and Spoon: If you don't have the money, fundraise it yourself rather than beg Dr. D because we all know he couldn't care less about anything that has to deal with athletics or the arts.

I agree with what Dawgmatic and El Oso are saying. There is a glaring "dearth" of leadership in the band.

we had repercussions for not coming to the game. scholarships were cut. but you have to factor in that THE ENTIRE BAND would have missed all or most of the break to be able to put on a show for the game. we would have missed thanksgiving with our families to play three songs. many of our members live at the bottom of the boot, in texas or arkansas, and many of those that live far away rely on others for rides because they are without vehicles. i know for a fact that some of them were away for a wedding. so punishing them for missing one game by taking away their (possibly) one shot at going to a bowl game that isnt in s'port (cause honestly...shreveport doesnt really count) is fair?and what college kid has the spare gas money to drive home then back to ruston for one game then home again then back for school all within a weeks time. i live in benton and i barely have the gas money to get home.
so before you go and say oh only the ones that came to the thanksgiving break game should go you should probably get all the details.
also buying tickets to gave to the spirit groups is a fantastic gesture but will yall be willing to foot the bill to ship the equipment? tubas are heavy! and percussion.

Reneau needs to know that 3.6 million people watched the Poinsettia Bowl last year. We need to be ALL IN.
This, agree. Its our time to shine.

Give Robken the budget of LSU, Texas or A&M's band, and I guarantee you we'd have a full contingency on Thanksgiving weekends.

I would like to welcome all the newbies to BB&B.
Don't bring problems. Bring solutions.
Re: Tech Administration decides to send only 1/3 of the BOP to the Poinsettia Bowl
1) The scoreboard at the end of the game will have a much bigger influence on the public perception of our university than the winner of the battle of the bands.
2) The bowl payout for the Poinsettia Bowl isn't that great. I'd rather see our university stay in the black on this bowl trip. If Dykes stays for a couple more years, we'll hopefully have several more higher paying bowl trips in our future.
3) Trying to embarrass the university administration into bringing the entire band by starting Facebook petitions and contacting media outlets is counterproductive to the overall goal of presenting the unversity in the best light. Frankly, the parties involved should be ashamed of themselves. I certainly don't want any association with it.
