The potential for open pressbox is fine. They just should have centered that area up or split them evenly on both ends. Of course I'm just a lowly east-sider who'll have a square on view of the thing and am hoping for the additional shade it'll provide.

Surely that is a on-going construction (temporary) measure. Maybe waiting to install something there and the plywood is there to keep rain out in the meantime.
