I think we would have got 6 wins if we didn't blow the Kansas game and if Kenneth would have played against Tulsa (and perhaps UTSA... maybe). Just a nightmare season all around.

I think it's both. It's not as clear to me that this is "only" Holtz's fault as it is to y'all. I saw some players getting whooped this year, and making some poor decisions, and turning the ball over at crucial times, and our 2 best weapons on offense (Dixon and Guillot) were injured for much of the year.
As an old coach I live by one mantra:
When the team wins it's because of the players, and when a team loses, it's the coach's fault.
[QUOTE=Dogsince65;1405390]I am reminded of "no new taxes" quote. one of 2 things, he thought he had more skill players or he had skill players but misused them. What are your feelings on the staff in general Dwayne? I know your evaluation will be thought out and reasonable -- do they have the skils to turn it around?? We kept same staff for 10yrs und
Well, I'm pretty sure GHWB kept his "no new taxes" promise. He just raised old taxes.
ETA: Actually, the GHWB comparison may be appropriate. Maybe by "system" he meant the meerkat thing, which he did actually keep. He just broke
since 2003 , thats 10 yrs T1, we have had 4 coaches. Now folks are ready to make it 5. Really stable that is. I am going to back Tech, Holtz for 3 yrs. If that does not work, I will still be backing Tech
Isn't that the truth! When I was in high school/college my dad used to tell me I was smarter than I'd ever be in my life right then. Was he ever right! I just thought I was smart back then and now I realize I'm definitely still learning a WHOLE lot every day....and I hope that continues until I'm planted 6' under!
Watching Indy Bowl. I was wondering if y'all would have passed on Rich Rodriguez because Michigan fired him.
We didn't need a coach when he was fired or hired by Arizona.
But, yes. Would have passed. Any coach fired needs a season off to retool.
I feel like a computer that needs to delete a lot of files. As we get REALLY OLD, we have accumulated tons of worthless info. Demensia may be caused by overload to some degree--- lot of info gathered is erroneous. Enjoy time with your family and friends. Remember being barefoot in the rain , laugh everyday, especially at yourself Remember your parents will usually be gone before you-- share time with them and tell them how you feel about them. If you have kids ( even better grandkids, be a "silly papa" (or nana). Try not to let the responsibilities of life keep you from enjoying life ... I am definetly more experienced now but not necessarily smarter ---- hey, its new years eve and I will be with grandkids while their parents have fun----
No I would not have wanted him at that point. I agree with JuBru, if a coach is fired for losing, he needs to take at least a year off to evaluate. That would not apply to a coach like Solich who was fired for not winning enough (as opposed to losing). That said however, his previous accomplishments when he was let go from Michigan far, far exceeded what Holtz brought.
