Promotions, get rid of "cheesy" stuff and just the overall "we're a small school in a small town" attitude that has seemed to be part of Tech football in the past. Dooley is doing this and I truly believe that this board will be a game changer, not because of replays, but again, the overall experience.
It is possible to be a small school in a small town, and still be "big time." The small school/small town is one of the reasons many choose Tech. I think it should be an emphasis and go along with growth and change. Just got to find the balance.

I don't want to speak for Ranger, but I don't think he meant small school as in enrollment. He meant small school as in perception. As in "little ol' Tech". As in just another non-LSU state school.
Re: First Look at GATAVision
16,000 is still small imo.

But not necessarily "small-time" which the distinction here, I think. We have to change the idea that Tech is a "small-time" school. The enrollment numbers are just enrollment numbers. It's a different topic for the most part.

I think our disagreement is one of symantics (sp). Yes, I love the small town of Ruston and the mid size school of LaTech. However, the atmosphere that has plagued Tech football is that it is small time and always will be. And I think there are those that would like to keep it as such.....those that like the Mayberry RFD mentality. However, you can have a small town with a big time atmosphere at a COLLEGE football game. Starkville, Oxford, Auburn, Hattiesburg, College Station, Stillwater....all small towns that have a big time college football atmosphere! That is my argument...the Videoboard will help bring that atmosphere to Ruston and help vault us from a high school mentality in Ruston and N LA!

Speak for me anytime...that is EXACTLY what I meant!
Re: First Look at GATAVision
The fact is that the "small school" attitude is JUST among those in Louisiana. Step outside the state and you will see that we have a much better reputation than in-state. It is time to change that. Louisiana Tech has always been N. Louisiana's premier university. It is time that the small timers realize that. If they DID realize how recognizable Tech is across the country, they would be VERY proud. The fact is that they don't recognize it.
All these changes - not just the Tron are making a dent in that mentality. It doesn't happen overnight, but it will happen. Dooley is the best thing that has happened to Louisiana Tech in a very very long time.

What many schools in small towns can accomplish is to get a more personal/emotional connection with their students. Tech fails to do this for some reason, outside of us loons on here. Getting that emotional tie is huge because then they will spend lots of money (most of us know this one too well) and live and die with Tech sports. I odnt know why many Tech students dont get attached (they have a bias coming in or Tech doesnt do well to establish a connection?).

I would think you would get year around infusion from the creek - EJ might can speak better of this since they did all the work on the north endzone parking lot several years ago in a very dry August and it still had decent flow then...

This is absolutely true. When you get outside of Ruston, lots of people know about Tech. Every year that we go out to Auburn, the true fans, not the crazies, always talk about our greats of the past and present, in every sport. They know who our players are and they know what we are capable of. If we could get the people in Ruston who have been burned in the past by Tech to renew their faith and following of our school and teams, I think our rep in state would improve dramatically. My grandpa got over it and so can the rest of the old codgers (sp) out there.
Re: First Look at GATAVision
Anyone on site? Looks like concrete trucks and lots of folks working. Are they pouring the footing for the brickworks?
Re: First Look at GATAVision
Those outside Ruston aren't helping the numbers, are they? All that respect outside the state isn't bringing in any new money, is it?
None of the advancements matter if no one shows up... and they won't show up just because of a board - the team has to do their part, and for the majority of the last 2 decades, for various reasons, the team hasn't done that. Some people will love Tech just because it's their school, but everyone else need a reason, especially with today's generation. If there isn't something tangible to them for them, why be interested?

Ummmmm....can't speak for the past two decades. However, the TEAM did their part last year. I understand that one season does not create a massive following. But if you are going to criticize the TEAM, at least give them credit for a very solid campaign last year! And by the way, the TEAM is doing their part every day in this freaking 100+ weather working to get stronger. Now its time for the FANS and casual fans to do their part.
