True, the dems are the party of "no" and usually will not compromise on anything. But, for instance...
maybe, just maybe, in exchange for amnesty for CERTAIN illegals, specified in the bill, funding for the wall.
maybe, just maybe, in exchange for some expanded Medicare changes to HC laws, like being able to buy HC insurance like we buy all other insurance, across state lines.
But, ya know, the more I think of it, given the current dems' leadership, you're probably right. But! if there were a true line item veto, then the dems would just get hammered into submission and get NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING they want. Then there might be a revolt and the dems would select new leadership.

But they really won’t compromise if the POTUS can line item out one side of the compromise.

Well, that's why the party "out of power" (defined as not having the WH) must be willing to compromise....a lot. The party in power goes to the Prez, congressional leadership, and make their case asking the Prez not to veto anything. If they have done their homework and gotten everyone on board, they can vote to overturn the presidential line item vetoes. Involve the Prez in the initial budget discussions, so he/she has some say in what the budget will look like.
If, on the other hand, Congress ignores the Prez's wishes and just ramrods thru a bunch of goofy spending items, they are just asking for line items to be vetoed.
Clearly what we have now isn't working. We have a pending $22 trillion national debt. As it is now, the POTUS either accepts ALL the stupid spending, including pork barrel projects, and we continue to kick the can down the road (growing the debt), or the POTUS makes a stand, says "No!" and "shuts down" the government. (which we all know is not really a shut down).
Pick your poison. It appears you are on the side of kicking the can down the road. Well, maybe not you, but certainly the Left is. I don't see ANY effort to curtail federal spending from the dems. The GOP can be just as bad, as a whole, because they are also part of The Swamp.

How about a balanced budget amendment?

Actually, that is why the party not in power can’t afford to compromise. What they are asking for in the compromise can be taken away from them unilaterally.

I've tried to articulate why that wouldn't necessarily be the case, and you keep posting the same response. So, either I am doing a lousy job of trying to explain it...or you're just a hopeless lefty moron. I think it's the latter.
OK...just kidding. You're not totally hopeless.
Re: George Soros on the Coming U.S. Class War
BTW, a line item veto would only work when there was a Repub POTUS. No way would a dem not weaponize it.
And, the idiot dem senator Van Hollen just reminded us why the dems cannot be trusted to negotiate fairly...not ever.

As Trump has shown, you can’t rely on what he says. He will just renege if he still has leverage to veto later.

I don't agree with that assessment of President Trump. But that aside..
besides, once the POTUS signs the budget bill, it is done for that FY. The Prez cannot renege. He/she can do something differently next time though.
and another besides, try to look past the current holder of the WH. I know you suffer from TDS and it clouds your mind, but a line item veto would last way beyond 2024. We'll have a new POTUS after that, and a line item veto would still be a good thing.

Wow, a dem FINALLY figured out what rich means (hint....it has virtually nothing to do with income).
https://www.cnbc.com/2019/01/24/eliz...c-advisor.html
Of course, even though she has identified what "rich" means, this plan will do nothing but increase the amount of money held outiside of the US or, worse even, force more of these people to move themselves AND their capital overseas.
This is nothing more than class warfare. It's not as bad as stealing the property of doomed concentration camp inmates (ala George Soros), but it will have unintended consequences.

The evilness and coveting of the leftist and socialist democrats is showing. Hum...driven by an Islamic congresswoman and Russia loving Senator Bernie now.

Wonder where they got the idea. In 1999, Trump proposed to impose a one-time 14.25 percent tax on individuals and trusts worth more than $10 million.

And guess what!!!!!
I am not as fixated on personalities as you are....so I can tell you this is a bad idea no matter who says it. It's a bad idea.
Why would even care about what Trump proposed in 1999 when he was not in a position to implement it? Is this what you've become? EVERYTHING is about Trump? I was against Trump's ban on bump stocks, but unlike you I can judge each piece of policy on its own merits. Your analysis here is very high-schoolish......you are fixated on the irrelevant.

Once a socialist, always a socialist?
