Irma
Tropical storm Irma, just barely on its way on its westward journey off the coast of Africa, still 8-10 days from getting even close to the US, and already a named storm, ouch! This has the makings of another Camille. Hopefully it'll track northward before reaching the Caribbean.
They're expecting a fire and catastrophic explosions at a chemical plant in Crosby, TX due to it being flooded.
Well, seems to me, if they can "expect" this to happen they must know why it will, and take steps to prevent it.
And that is why it is ridiculous for the BB&B rain predictors to proclaim a full week before the game that "it will be raining in Ruston with 7K attendance next Saturday". History has proven repeatedly that the forecast (regardless of the source) must be within a few days of the game to be reliable.
Oh...okay, just let the chemical plant explode in a huge mushroom cloud. Got it. Good plan ya got there. We should put you in charge.
They had a plan...Get AWAY!
Sometimes circumstances don't allow even a Dawg80 type person to fix it before it happens.
From what I've read - they could have had a plan in place to neutralize the chemicals using other chemicals so this wouldn't occur. They apparently did not want to lose product, so their plan was to use generators to keep the chemicals at the proper temperatures.
I'm all for companies making money, saving money, but when lives are at stake - employees/neighbors - have a plan in place to eliminate the problem.
I just listened to the president of the company in his press conference. They had the primary source of power and three backup sources of power to keep the chemicals cool. Appears all have been compromised due to the flooding. I am sure there were several other ways to prevent this problem as it seems that the flooding was the source of the failure of all backup plans. He also indicated that they didn't want to truck any out of the plant due to the overcrowding of the highways.
Awesome and so true!
