Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
Safford is going to deliver a key hit today, maybe a HR that proves to be the game-winner. I can just feel it :shocked2:.
When they score 6+ runs Liberty is practically unbeatable. In fact, I think they are unbeaten this year (I'll make a quick check on that.) Our pitching has to step up today, guys who have been so-so need to deliver some quality innings. Liberty is not a powerful offensive team; they have struggled to score runs at times. Yet, in two games here they have scored 15 runs. Time for them to settle back to their sub-4 runs per game. Our offense needs to click; stop this LOB crap. Runner on 3rd, less than two outs, no excuses, drive him in.
I posted last week as the regular season was wrapping up that being the #2 seed would be advantageous as the combo of Liberty-SHSU is better than the duo of WKU-FIU, and I said DBU would have the easier path to Sunday in that bracket. Of course, we couldn't not try to win last week. Plus we were (and probably still are) playing for that at-large berth. One projection has us as the #2 seed in the Arkansas regional. Another source has us the #2 seed in the Oklahoma regional. Well, if this is what the selection committee is thinking too, we shouldn't go from a #2 seed to completely out of the playoffs with a loss today.
But, I want to win now, today, this weekend!!! Might be great for CUSA to get three teams into the NCAAs, but that ain't happening. If it's not Tech it'll be DBU garnering the auto-bid, so, might as well be us.
In the DBU-WKU game(s) today, WKU exhausted their closer, Burns, yesterday as he pitched 3 2/3 innings and threw 60+ pitches. He won't be available for any kind of long stint today. WKU is cooked. I think WKU is just happy to have reached the semi-finals and DBU will clobber them this morning.
For the Dawgs, we can beat Liberty twice today. That's a very real possibility. I will even go as far as to say, it should happen. Last week LB came out all smug and arrogant boasting about that's how they "Tech it up" smacking down his critics. I posted he should have waited until he had checked into a hotel in Omaha to make such a statement. Losing a game to Liberty today, either one, will mean Tech lost a series to Liberty on our home field. Whoa! now that would be "Teching it up."
Go Dawgs! You can do this. Let's be playing Sunday.
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
We definitely didn’t play our best yesterday, even with 1 win. Safford and McConnell both were swinging at pitches that would have hit a right handed batter in the butt. AD was swinging at stuff in the 1st base dugout. Furr is struggling. It all has to come together for the next 27 innings. Tough task, but I’ll be there to watch the heart attack dawgs!
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
In conference games when Liberty scores 6+ runs they are 13-8. In conference games when they score 5 or fewer runs they are 0-10. That's right, have not won a single CUSA game when they fail to score 6 runs. There ya go! Our pitching needs to do their jobs today.

Meyers swings at pitches he couldn't reach with a broom. I like his defense, and that certainly is important, but man! Why some coach hasn't taught him (or he taught himself) to 1) not chase those crappy pitches on the ground and outside, or 2) at least lean across the plate and try to take it the opposite way.
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
Late game: Hubka gave us all he had for 4. That's probably his limit. Thank goodness Broderson was ready to go and shut down what could have been a disaster.
Early game: Nichols got the loss, but our offense let him and us down. He pitched good enough to get the win.
We MIGHT have Broderson for a few pitches on Sunday if we get there, but LB has said that he won't put him back out there.
It will be interesting to see the pitching strategy for game one today.

It’s been obvious for years and yet no one has addressed it… since Myers seemingly can’t help but swing at pitches outside all he has to do is take a half step stance closer to the plate and think right field swings. Come on Gaspard, do your job.
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
Even though it didn’t really matter I was glad to see Martinez throw and be effective. Tech will probably need that from him again before it’s all over with. Go Dawgs! Go Safford, make a contribution, your team needs you to do something complimentary.

Welp. We're cooked. T1 0-3 Liberty.
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
How many effing times do we start innings with two quick outs and just can't get that third out? Let's see, in 58 games that's 522 innings, I'll guess at least 300 times.

We got a ballgame. Thanks Corona
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
Big Jorge! How the hell was he not on an all-conference team???? Injustice...
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
We are determined to lose this game.
Re: 2024 Super 1 Foods CUSA Baseball Championship
If Liberty advances to finals and wins, they get automatic bid.
Does that mean we get left out? Seems like it to me. I don’t see CUSA as a 3-bid league.
