I make a large post and this is all you have? Really? I do applaud you for thinking the Techsters are going to win the WAC tourney. We are 1-3 against the first two seeds and have three losses to teams seeded below us. Prolly not going to happen, ya think? And, I know you do not think the NCAA will give us an at large bid with a 15-14 (8-6) regualr season record.

Terrible basketball programs, not even the girls make the NCAAs anymore. Weak facilities. Never very successful in D-I football, 3 bowl games in 16 years isn't really success. Horrible location. Hard to get quality recruits to want to live in Ruston in any sport. Horrible TV numbers anytime any Tech team plays on TV. Weak academic reputation compared to many CUSA schools (Tulane, Rice, Tulsa, SMU, UAB). Second smallest stadium in CUSA, beat Tulsa by 600.
Chief, I am sorry for the dose of reality. Compare these facts to ULL and see how we stand up. It isn't a slam dunk that we are better.
Cannot wait to see your response. Go beyond saying I am not a Tech grad or fan, as I am both! Come on deal in REALITY. Dispute any of the facts I have given you. ANY OF THEM. CUSA has expanded multiple times in the last decade and never was Tech invited; do you think the non BCS conferences are watered down enough now that we get in? Doubtful when there are large market teams still available with equal DI histories. That's really all I am saying. I do think we would do better in the Belt, but hope we get into the CUSA/MWC alliance. Just looking at facts I do
Trivia question for you. How many D-IA games have we won against out of conference teams who finished the season with winning records in the last 8 years? Opps, that would be 0 or one less than ULL this season however you wish to think of it. Dispute any of the facts I have given you. ANY OF THEM. CUSA has expanded multiple times in the last decade and never were we invited do you think the non-BCS conferences are watered down enough now that we get in? Doubtful when there are large market teams still available with equal DI histories.
Well if you are a Tech grad, I apologize, because you didn't get a very good education. As to your comments on my analysis- Some Memphis and USM fans seem to be very concerned with what we do and are pretty quick to show up here and try to rub our nose in anything remotely negative that comes out about Tech (sometimes it comes out of pretty nasty places as your opinions seem to). Actually Rivals and scout ranked our recruiting class decently when size was not a factor (we couldn't sign a full class this year because it would put us over the NCAA scholarship limit). And yes the LSU system and some UL system schools have the system in the name. While most ignorant people think that LSUS or LSUA or LSUE is a "little LSU" you have to be a whole 'nother level of ignorant to think anyone is a "little ull" just because we are in the same system. I suppose if we started calling ourselves Louisiana LSU and ULL would become "little Louisiana Tech"s:laugh:
Here is some realism for you: "uninterested student body" - you find exciting new ways to highlight your ignorance about Tech. Tech has excellent student support and has for a while now. Tech is part of the Shreveport MSA which again is decent sized and could potentially claim the Monroe- El Dorado market as well. Our big bowl game drew 26,000 on a weeknight 1500 miles away from campus. It also drew the best TV ratings of any bowl game with a non-AQ participant. Our independence bowl game a few years ago drew over 40k, but that isn't convenient to you point is it. Very few non-AQ schools average more than 30k attendance, and I know how well your team drew this year and ULL should be commended for it. It really is impressive. If they can keep winning I don't see any reason they can't keep it up, but if they start losing I suspect it will be back to whatever it was before. Our athletic budget certainly isn't huge, but it is on par with any of the candidates for the merger at around 18 million. Mens basketball seems to be on the rise, and while the women don't look good this year, didn't they make the tournament last year (serious question). Our facilities are on par with the candidates except those who have recently built new stadiums and the SEZ should keep us moving in the right direction. We have made 6 bowl games in D-1 and qualified quite a few more times than that. We aren't exactly king of D-1 football, but our resume stands up nicely to any of the proposed candidates. Sorry that you don't like Ruston, but our location may be one of our greatest strengths for the CUSA-MWC conference. We haven't had any trouble getting recruits to come to Ruston, sometimes we have trouble getting them to come to a non-AQ, but Ruston is almost never a problem. TV numbers () , our TV numbers are excellent compared to other non- AQs. Academic reputation (:laugh:), our academic reputation is excellent and is another one of our greatest strengths in the proposed merger. We have a better academic reputation than anyone in the sunbelt and fit in nicely with the schools in CUSA. Our stadium is smaller than most in CUSA, that's true, but we put more fans in our stadium than most of the CUSA schools (USM, Houston, ECU and maybe one or two others out draw us).
ULL has two things going for them, they had excellent attendance this year and Lafayette is a good market. Thats it. We are better academically, athletically and just about any other way you want to slice it.
There is my response to your "REALITY". I dispute all of your "facts". CUSA has certainly passed us over in the past, but there was a reason we were a candidate then and we are a candidate now. I'll trust your numbers on the 8 year timeline although the 8 year choice seems arbitrary. Who did ULL beat OOC that finished with a winning record? I honestly don't know. I know they lost to OK state and Arizona (state?) Nevermind I looked it up the bowl game they won on a miracle last second field goal. It was an awesome game, don't get me wrong and ULL should be really proud of what they accomplished this past year. I don't think the fact that they have beaten 1 OOC team that finished the season with a winning record is going to put them over the top. Your last sentence comes close to making sense. The big market teams are our major threat to get into CUSA. The good news is that we have some other things (many of the things you list as weaknesses) that put us on a level playing field with the large market teams. We will see what happens when they make their choice. I will be interested in your excuses if we get in.
Re: What a month January should be!
Everyone is missing the big point here. I am a Tech alum and fan. I hope we make it in the alliance. Just the facts don't add up. The Sun Belt sucks almost as much as the WAC. But atleast we can have some rivalries again. Get some people interested in our programs.
Hey I am the first to admit it we have had a tough few months.
1. An 8th straight year of no big out of conference wins. 8 YEARS!
2. An sad attendance for our big bowl game. ULL had twice as many at their bowl game and they won!
3. No conference invite.
4. Horrible football recruiting class.
5. Karl getting b**** slapped by the Jazz. He really needs to keep his pie hole closed, even die-hard Tech fans need to admit that.
6. The AD wasting too much money from an already small budget!
Thank goodness Willie Roaf got into the hall!

Re: What a month January should be!
We beat ole miss this year. We beat msu in 2008.
You're not much of a Tech fan.
Re: What a month January should be!
We also beat two Top 25 teams in that 8-year span, and I think that's something that USL has never done in their 100+ year history.

If we get in it will be because they go to 20 teams not in AQ conferences and that 20 will be after the CUSA and MWC lose about 10 schools. Which means we would be considered a top 30 non AQ school 3 years ago. The 8 arbitrary years you reference means it was 9 years ago since a non conference win against a team with a winning record. Even you have to admit that is pretty weak.

Seems that we beat Ole Miss last year...hmm... big Tech fan that you are that must have slipped your radar... NIU in the bowl game 3 years ago. Miss St... same year Of course I wouldn't count our wins against ULL or UNT as D=IA wins either, so this troll might have a point there... Oh, and we have been at the FBS/D-IA level since 1988 hence the Spirit of '88...
Yeah, you are a real true blue fan. Might want to check some more of those "facts" you keep spewing.

If you went to school with me, surely you remember tearing down the goalposts.

Ole Miss losing record last year. NIU losing record that year. ULL and UNT were in our conference in those years. You say I am not a fan, do you follow our team?

Nope we only won one big game in Ruston when I was there and we didn't tear down the goalposts.

Which game was that?

[QUOTE=johnnylightnin;1210069]We beat ole miss this year. We beat msu in 2008.
I said winning records. The win against Ole Miss was cool. But I mean the HC was already canned, the season in the crapper. That felt like kicking someone who was already down. My statement was against out of conference teams with winning records. We are 0 for 8 years on that one cheif.

ULL and UNT were in the WAC?? Damn, you're right, I must not follow our team, because I for damn sure thought they were in the Sun Belt. BTW your quote said non WAC D-IA opponents, so now you are saying winning records, geez dude. Guess you can thump you chest tonight to whatever belch school you are really a fan of for "giving us the run around"...
