I still think it's an opportunity for Tech if it came together in a fiscally responsible manner. Guess we'll see what happens soon enough.
The governor even doesn't support this. Higher education in Louisiana is f'd up.

There is no traction or unified momentum. It seems all the Tech people are on the sidelines cheering but not vested in the move.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Larry Clark said "The ability to have LSU in our name is a huge magnet", that is all they care.
LSUS uses online enrollment to grow campus | arklatechhomepage.com- Chancellor of LSUS, Larry Clark said a proposed merger with Louisiana Tech is not needed for several reasons including that LSUS is expanding thanks to its online students and not necessarily the state.
- "The ability to have LSU in our name is a huge magnet in attracting students from around the world," Clark said.
- "We have an urban, metropolitian mission and it's a university of opportunity. Rather to lower the expectation in the classroom we support the students to meet expectation in the classroom," Clark said.

"There's a sucker born every minute" Larry Clark - basically.
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
A Tech/LSUS merger is not in the cards. Time to put any ideas about consolidating higher education in Louisiana aside. Each university will have to survive on its own merits. We'll all continue to struggle with inadequate state funding for the foreseeable future.

I am for it. I think most Tech folks are for it, but I won't lose any sleep when it fails.

I'm also for it but believe Shreveport and the mayor missed their chance years ago. We have moved on.

Cedric Glover was the Mayor at that time, and I believe he was ALL IN back then as well. It was the legislative branch that wasn't.
I want this for my city, not sure what's in it for my university.

It had support from everyone except the 3 state senators in the region, each of whom were against it for their own selfish political reasons. And the irony in all of this is the fact that LSU's leadership in Baton Rouge was publicly against it while privately they would love nothing more than to get rid of it.

This is a textbook example of how common sense legislation gets pummeled by graft & corruption. The legislators that don't want it typically are against it for personal gain or the gain of their favorite team. I quit caring a few years back but always like to see how it unfolds.

Not true. There were more than just THREE state senators opposed to it. And, there were a bunch of others who didn't care either way, but we're ONLY going to support it in exchange for a political reciprocation on other issues.

he qualified his statement with "in the region."
Re: The (LA Tech/LSUS) Merger Thread II
Maybe so, but that's not how it reads.
"In the region, it had the support of everyone except the 3 state senators..."
Only, that's not true either. There were many "in the region" opposed to it.
