I think the new official hashtag (#WeAreLATech) hinders our brand in two ways:
1. The capital "A" suggests people pronounce our name "L.A. Tech" as if we were Los Angeles Tech. Weekend sports anchors in Shreveport and Monroe are now referring to us as "L.A. Tech" thanks to the capital "A". Despite what our athletics department thinks, "LA" is not the abbreviation for Louisiana. It's the postal code. "La." is the correct abbreviation for Louisiana.
2. We are Bulldogs! That's our best stadium chant. We don't say, "We are LATech."
I like #HBTD, but Georgia fans also use that same hashtag.
I think our SID should use two different hashtags:
- #LaTech #WeAreBulldogs (for men's sports)
- #LaTech #LadyTechsters (for women's sports)
That suggests that people pronounce our name "Lah" Tech instead of "L.A." Tech, and it helps build our "We are Bulldogs" brand. In addition, all of our athletics tweets will show up for anybody who searches the #LaTech hashtag.
