Probably a greater chance of them going indy than to the Big 12. Just do not see that much of an attraction for them from the conference. I would consider New Mexico a better option. Better market and a new one at that. I got the feeling that no one was really sad to see Colorado leave. Not much in football right now, but brings another quality basketball team to the conference.

That's kind of like CUSA jumping out to El Paso to take UTEP over Tech. Geography really doesn't matter that much. Basketball doesn't matter that much. Hiring a consultant with ties to the conference doesn't matter that much. Markets matter to CUSA and good football matters to everyone else.

I really believe that looking at their options (for 12 teams) we probably are in the discussion. I just don't think Houston leaves a stable cusa at this point. The same may be true of UTEP. If we are to believe that Hawaii is in the available pool to get to 12 is:

Apples and oranges. The BE is looking for TCU to prop up their football and there is a major airport nearby. The WAC has bitched about Tech and having to fly into Dallas or Shreveport forever. And let's face it, we haven't been tearing it up since we won the WAC 10 years ago. It all starts with winning.

The new Big12 money is the same as the SEC but split amongst fewer teams with more money going to the schools that pull in the most money (Texas). Deep pockets came in and held the Big12 together and kept Texas happy. The bigger (Texas, OU, A&M) schools in the Big12 are now getting SEC money. Texas doesn't want to add anyone so The Big12 will not add anyone. There is no reason to do so. When you are getting that kind of money with 2 less teams you don't try to split it unless you are adding a team like Notre Dame to your league.

No... I mean it wasn't a travel issue for the MWC teams to go to TCU. Why would Tech be a travel issue? Basically the same distance in the air. How far is the drive from DFW to Fort Worth? 30 minutes or so? It's not THAT big of a deal, if they need us to get to 12. Maybe we aren't worth the travel and TCU was, but that still isn't a "travel issue."
