For reasons already stated (historical context) I agree with both presidents Trump and Biden, the US had to get out of Afghanistan. The only question being could it have been handled better? I think the answer to that question is a resounding YES! it could have/should have been.
Trump is no longer President. If Biden had left everything alone that Trump had done, we wouldn't have all these illegals crossing the border and we would still be building the wall. Biden has been President for 7 months and everything he has done has gone to hell. He's already passed Jimmy Carter as the worst president in history.
Biden did a 180 on EVERYTHING Trump did other than this. Go figure.
America is, by it's very nature, a populist nation. Our founding document begins with "WE THE PEOPLE", and we naturally disavow any concept of a elite ruling class.
China is not populist. The kings and queens of England were not populist. Are you just repeating something your tribe told you again?
Leadership....LOLOLOL.
Trump had a staged withdrawal plan. Clearly the events of the last couple of months would have violated the conditions of the plan and withdrawal would have been slowed down if not reversed.
Any Trump plan whether you agree with it or not would have been better than a totally telegraphed cut and run fiasco perfectly timed for the peak fighting season in Afghanistan.
Less than 7 months to get a Saigon moment. And make no mistake, this is FAR worse than anything we saw in Vietnam.
After 20 years of US troop sacrifice, money and training, our chosen Afghan leaders could do nothing…what was more time going to accomplish other than cost us more money and US lives.
Trump and Biden both understood this.
And dawg80 is right, this has become another Vietnam. Biden will surely pay a political price for finally doing what others could not do, but adults understand that is part of the job.
Kind of like moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Took a leader to take the leap.
Another humiliation for this feckless administration.

If you wait long enough, you will see everything! Well, here's a time when I agree with Goosey and Biden. Trump was right too as he has always said he wants US troops out of these hopeless situations which have dissolved into, or always were, civil wars. This is not a support for isolationism, which is extremely dangerous. The US has to remain actively involved in world affairs, to practice hegemony because we are the world's best hope. But, we must be more selective where we intervene.
That said....PLEASE do not abandon our good friends and allies the Kurds in Syria and Iraq. Unlike the crappy, wimpy Afghans, the Kurds will fight to protect themselves, they have demonstrably shown that. We have only to support them.
Also...it would be nice now that we know the Afghan army has no intention of using any of it if we could remove all that military hardware. The Taliban will be the 6th best equipped army in the world with the stuff we are leaving behind...including 166 Blackhawk attack helicopters. Seems to me it would be worth an investment of troops and time to take our stuff with us. Just saying...
